Recent fires involving waste collection vehicles in Fullerton are an important reminder that lithium-ion batteries and other hazardous materials require special disposal.

Lithium batteries are found in many everyday items, including phones, laptops, toys, power tools, e-bikes, portable chargers and v**e devices. When these items are placed in curbside trash or recycling carts, they can be crushed or damaged during collection and processing, causing them to overheat, spark or catch fire.

Please remember:
🔋 Never place lithium batteries, electronics, v**e devices, power tools or other battery-powered items in your trash or recycling carts.

📍 Take batteries and other household hazardous waste to an approved collection location.

Local drop-off locations include:

• OC Waste & Recycling Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center
1071 N. Blue Gum Street, Anaheim

• Republic Services Disposal Facility
1235 N. Blue Gum Street, Anaheim

Proper disposal is a simple step that helps protect collection crews, equipment and our community from preventable fires.

Solar-Powered Lighting Expansion! ☀️💡

Fullerton is continuing to expand its use of solar-powered street lighting! The Derek Circuit, which serves several streets in the surrounding area, is one of the latest to receive new solar-powered LED fixtures.

A total of 42 street lights were converted, replacing aging infrastructure with modern, self-contained solar fixtures that operate independently using renewable energy. The upgrades help improve reliability and system resilience while reducing energy use and long-term operating and maintenance costs.

Wondering how City projects, including street improvements, are funded? 🤔

Swipe through to learn about the funding sources that help maintain, repair, and rehabilitate Fullerton's streets.

Funding sources include:
🚧 Gas Tax (State of California): Supports street maintenance, pothole repair, pavement striping and signage, and street lighting repairs and operations.

🚧 SB 1 – Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account (State of California): Funds major street rehabilitation projects.

🚧 Measure M2 Local Fair Share (Orange County Transportation Authority): Supports major street rehabilitation, traffic signal systems, sidewalk repairs, and the City's Pavement Management Program.

🚧 Infrastructure Fund (City of Fullerton): Funds major street rehabilitation and sidewalk repairs.

🚧 General Fund (City of Fullerton): May also be used for major street rehabilitation.

🚧 Other potential funding sources (if available):
• Grants: Competitive, one-time funding for specific projects or areas that often require a local funding match.
• Earmarks: Competitive, one-time federal funding for specific projects, typically used for street improvements rather than ongoing rehabilitation or maintenance.
