WEATHER UPDATE
Below is the latest update from the National Weather Service. With inclement weather on the way, the Fulton Police Department wants to encourage our community to take a few simple steps to stay safe and prepared.
AT HOME:
• Have flashlights, batteries, and a battery-powered or hand-crank weather radio on hand.
• Keep a 72-hour supply of water, food, and any necessary medications.
• Charge your devices BEFORE the storm arrives.
• Know where your important documents are (insurance, ID, medical records).
• Check on elderly or disabled neighbors who may need assistance.
ON THE ROAD:
• Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
• NEVER drive through flooded roads — just 6 inches of water can knock a person down, and 12 inches can sweep away a vehicle. TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
• Slow down — wet roads significantly reduce stopping distance.
• Keep your headlights on and increase your following distance.
• Make sure your windshield wipers and tires are in good condition before heading out.
STAY INFORMED:
• Download a trusted weather app and enable emergency alerts on your phone.
• Follow this page, WPSD-TV, or US National Weather Service Paducah Kentucky for real-time updates.
IF YOU LOSE POWER:
• Never run a generator indoors or in a garage — carbon monoxide is deadly.
• Use flashlights instead of candles when possible to reduce fire risk.
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food as long as possible.
Your safety is our top priority. We will be on patrol and ready to respond throughout the duration of this weather event. If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.
