Tonight, the Guilderland Fire Department joins the fire and EMS community across the country in mourning the loss of Randy Mantooth.
To many, Randy was known as Paramedic Johnny Gage from the television series Emergency!. To those of us who serve, his impact went far beyond television. He inspired generations of firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and emergency responders to answer the call and dedicate themselves to helping others.
We were especially honored to have Randy as part of our annual installation dinner two years ago where he delivered the opening and welcome remarks. His warmth, humility, and genuine appreciation for the fire service left a lasting impression on everyone.
For many of us, he was a childhood hero. For countless others, he was one of the reasons they chose a career or volunteer service in emergency response. His legacy lives on every day in the men and women who continue to serve their communities with the same compassion, professionalism, and dedication he portrayed on screen and championed throughout his life.
On behalf of the members of the Guilderland Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to Randy’s family, friends, and the entire Emergency! family.
Thank you, Randy, for the inspiration, the memories, and the example you set for generations of first responders.
Rest easy, Johnny Gage. Your final alarm has sounded, but your legacy will never be forgotten. 🚒💙🖤
