Tonight at approximately 4:35pm Volney Fire along with Phoenix and Palermo Fire were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the Volney Fire District. 4701 chief(Sponable) from Phoenix arrived confirming fully involved garage fire with extension into the residence. 2803 2nd asst. Chief(T.Vosseller) and 2801 Chief(K.Hayden) arrived around the same time as 4701 with 2801 assuming command and 4701 assuming operations. A second alarm was started bringing more man power to the scene. 4711 Capt(Goodrow) from Phoenix and Volney's 2811 deputy Chief(R.Beach) arrived almost simultaneously with 4711 taking the driveway and 2811 establishing a water supply for 4711. Multiple handlines were deployed an aggressive interior attack was conducted saving most of the residence while other handlines were used to extinguish the garage and knock down fire on the outside of the residence. 2802 1st. Asst. Chief(A.Howard) 2821 appr.(C.Sanders) 2871 F.P.(L.Hilts) and 2872 appr.(D.Treneer) also responded from Volney. The second alarm brought Cody Fire and Granby Center Fire to the scene to provide manpower. Palermo provided a tanker but were cancelled do to hydrants in the area. Caughdenoy Fire and New Haven fire provided standby coverage for the departments committed to the structure fire. The fire was knocked down within 30 minutes of the initial dispatch with extensive overhaul. Crews worked on scene all becoming available approximately 7:35pm.
Volney Fire would like to Phoenix Fire, Cody Fire, Granby Center Fire, O.S.100, O.S.1100, Oswego County FIT, Mexico Fire with 38MC1, Menter Ambulance, The New York State Police, National Grid and the Red Cross for their assistance on scene. Volney Fire would also like to thank New Haven Fire and Caughdenoy Fire for providing standby coverage and Palermo Fire for bringing their tanker. A total of 17 members of Volney Fire responded to this call. Another true example of neighbors helping neighbors.
