Participants are asked to bring Séma {To***co} for the Conductors of Ceremony, a towel, and appropriate attire. Please note that participants must be sober for four days prior to sweating.

🔥 Kë Bodwémen {Fire Keepers Workshop}

⚠️ Neshnabék Community Gathering — Not Open to the General Public
This is a private Neshnabék community cultural gathering. The workshop and ceremonial fire are not open to the general public. Neshnabék community members are warmly invited to visit the fire and take part in this cultural gathering.

🪶The ceremonial fire will remain open for visitation throughout the workshop, from 8 a.m. Saturday, October 10, through 12 p.m. Sunday, October 11.

Whether you stay for a few moments or several hours, you are welcome to spend time at the fire, visit with others, observe, ask questions and learn more about traditional fire keeping in a respectful environment.

No registration is required. Come as you are and spend as much time as you are able.

Join the Maternal Child Health Team for a fun painting and stamping activity with NHBP’s Environmental Department! Come create, explore and enjoy some creative time together.

An educational Narcan training session is being offered, and free Narcan kits will be available for participants to take home. This training is open to the community and free of charge.

NARCAN (naloxone HCl) nasal spray is the first and only FDA-approved intranasal form of naloxone for the emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose. Each Narcan kit includes a CPR mask, gloves, sanitizer, fentanyl test strips, printed educational materials, and two doses of NARCAN nasal spray.

2026 Native American Heritage Fund Grant Recipients Announced

The Native American Heritage Fund (NAHF) has announced its 2026 grant recipients, awarding nearly $480,000 to nine organizations across Michigan.

The 2026 recipients are:
• Union City Society For Historic Preservation — $25,000
• Michigan History Foundation, Inc. — $125,000
• Grand Ledge Public Schools (Nokomis Nature Center) — $3,400
• Chippewa Hills School District — $177,339
• Public Schools of Petoskey — $7,500
• Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District — $30,000
• Portland Public Schools - Portland, MI (Nokomis Nature Center) — $5,100
• The Dearborn Academy and West Village Academy — $105,000
• Reeths-Puffer Schools (Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve) — $1,649.38

This year's funded projects include Indigenous history curriculum and cultural education, Tribal-led interpretation of historic sites, Indigenous education initiatives, support for Native American students and the continued replacement of outdated Native American mascot imagery.
