2026 Native American Heritage Fund Grant Recipients Announced
The Native American Heritage Fund (NAHF) has announced its 2026 grant recipients, awarding nearly $480,000 to nine organizations across Michigan.
The 2026 recipients are:
• Union City Society For Historic Preservation — $25,000
• Michigan History Foundation, Inc. — $125,000
• Grand Ledge Public Schools (Nokomis Nature Center) — $3,400
• Chippewa Hills School District — $177,339
• Public Schools of Petoskey — $7,500
• Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District — $30,000
• Portland Public Schools - Portland, MI (Nokomis Nature Center) — $5,100
• The Dearborn Academy and West Village Academy — $105,000
• Reeths-Puffer Schools (Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve) — $1,649.38
This year's funded projects include Indigenous history curriculum and cultural education, Tribal-led interpretation of historic sites, Indigenous education initiatives, support for Native American students and the continued replacement of outdated Native American mascot imagery.
