After more than 15 years of service, EMT Derek Back has announced his retirement from the Callaway County Ambulance District, effective August 25, 2026.

Derek joined CCAD on June 11, 2011, and has spent the years since caring for the residents of Callaway County and helping shape the people who serve alongside him. Over his career he wore many hats. He served as a BLS instructor, a driving instructor, and a field training officer, passing his knowledge and standards on to countless new EMTs and paramedics. As a member of our peer support team, he was there for his fellow providers during some of the hardest moments this work brings.

The impact of a career like Derek's reaches far beyond the calls he ran. It lives on in every provider he trained, mentored, and stood beside. That legacy will continue to serve our community long after his last shift.

Please join us in thanking Derek for his dedication and wishing him all the best in a well-earned retirement.

It is with deep sadness that we share the death of retired EMS Supervisor / Paramedic, Mike Lindsay.

Mike dedicated almost three decades of service to our community and to the EMS profession. Throughout his career, he was known for his leadership, commitment to patient care, and willingness to mentor those who worked alongside him. His contributions helped shape our organization and positively impacted countless lives.

After retirement, Mike remained a valued member of our EMS family. He will be remembered for his professionalism, friendship, and the lasting influence he had on generations of EMS providers.

Please keep Mike’s family, friends, and former colleagues in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Mike. Your service and dedication will not be forgotten.

The Callaway County Ambulance District congratulates the seven graduates of our Spring 2026 EMT class.

These students completed a demanding course of classroom instruction, skills training, and clinical hours to earn their certification. The work required commitment, and they met it. They now join the ranks of professionals who answer the call when our neighbors need help most.

EMS is built on people willing to step forward and do hard work for their community. This class has shown they are ready to do exactly that. We are proud to recognize their achievement and we look forward to seeing where their careers take them.
