Our ongoing heat wave will continue through at least Saturday across the entire area, with a medium chance that the Heat Advisory continues for portions of the area on Sunday. There is a low chance (20%) for rain Sunday and Monday, with a majority of the holiday weekend remaining dry.

National CERT Week is coming up September 20 - 26, 2026. The Callaway County CERT will be hosting a virtual scavenger hunt for everyone. If you bring the completed form to the 2026 Disaster Preparedness Expo on the 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the YMCA of Callaway County, 1715 Wood St, Fulton, MO 65251 you will be entered into the drawing. Some of the prizes include:

What will you be doing to celebrate National CERT Week???

National CERT Week will be held annually on the third week of September, in conjunction with National Preparedness Month. In 2026, National CERT Week will be held September 20 - 26. A week-long event, National CERT Week highlights and celebrates the accomplishments of all CERT programs across the country.

⚠️ **PUBLIC NOTICE – HAZMAT TRAINING EXERCISES** ⚠️

Callaway County Emergency Management would like to make residents aware of **planned hazardous materials training exercises** taking place in Callaway County this week.

📍 **Tuesday, August 4 – Fulton**
Training activities will take place in the area of **Rice Hall, 650 E. 8th Street**, beginning early Tuesday morning and continuing throughout the day.

📍 **Thursday, August 6 – New Bloomfield**
Training activities will take place in the area of **New Bloomfield School** throughout the day.

Residents in these areas may notice an **increased presence of emergency vehicles, law enforcement, fire/EMS personnel, military vehicles, specialized response equipment, and simulated emergency response activities.**

🚨 **THIS IS ONLY A TRAINING EXERCISE. THERE IS NO DANGER TO THE PUBLIC.**

These exercises provide local and state emergency response agencies an opportunity to work together under realistic conditions and strengthen our ability to safely and effectively respond to hazardous materials incidents.

For everyone's safety, please avoid areas marked **“Exercise in Progress,” “Training,”** or otherwise restricted to exercise personnel.

We appreciate the community's cooperation and understanding while our emergency response partners conduct this important training.

Turn around don't drown

Drivers are reminded to stay alert while driving in areas known to flood. It doesn’t take much water to sweep a vehicle off the roadway. Do not drive around barriers or barricades.

Everyone stay safe through the night.

‼️⚠️A sizable portion of Missouri, including the Kansas City area, has now been raised to the MODERATE RISK category (Level 4 risk out of 5) for this afternoon/evening/night's storms.
‼️▶️SINCE HAIL AND STRONG WINDS ARE PRIMARY THREATS:
▶️Secure outdoor furniture, toys, and gardening tools to prevent them from becoming projectiles.
▶️Park vehicles in a garage or under sturdy cover.
▶️Close blinds and curtains to protect against broken glass.
▶️Follow you local forecast for updates, have multiple ways of receiving alerts, always know where you would shelter.

⚠️ STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILL CANCELLED

The National Weather Service has cancelled today’s statewide tornado drill due to the potential for severe weather across the region.

Because of this, Callaway County outdoor warning sirens will NOT be sounded at 11:00 AM today for the drill.

While the drill has been cancelled, this is a good reminder to review your tornado safety plans.
