Today being the National Fallen Firefighters memorial service in Emmitsburg Maryland, We would like to pause and remember our members who have made the extreme sacrifice protecting the City of Fulton.

Firefighter Floyd Adel came in contact with high power lines on Fay st. December fourth 1914

Firefighter Leon Hammond was killed when a brick wall collapsed on him at a warehouse fire November thirteenth 1915

Assistant Chief P. Ellsworth Rude died at a house fire on west third st June third 1927

Firefighter George Brewer died following a commercial fire on Rochester st February sixteenth 1961

On this day in 1961 FF George Brewer died in the line of duty. Following a commercial fire at 113 Schuyler st (Box 54) FF Brewer suffered a fatal medical event. FF Brewer was going to fuel Engine 2 when the engine traveled off road and came to rest near S. First and Rochester st. Fellow firefighters rushed to his aid, but all life saving attempts were not successful. FF Brewer was 47 Years old and a 15 year member of IAFF local 3063.

01/07/2026 @1512 Fulton units responded to three separate incidents a minute a part from each other. Fulton Rescue 2 responded to a EMS call, Engine 3 response to a citizen assist, and Engine 2 responded to a gas odor. An hour later units were responded to reports of a vehicle fire, on arrival units found a garbage truck with smoke coming from the vehicle. Since the 1st of the year, Fulton has responded to multiple incidents simultaneously 11 times. This is why staffing matters.

Happy Holidays from IAFF Local 3063

Throughout the rumors and misinformation, our members have remained diligent and dutiful in our service to the citizens of Fulton. Every day, our firefighters show up ready to assist the community in their worst moments with compassion, professionalism, and pride. Every employee in the City of Fulton strives toward these same goals.

For the sake of clarity and factual accuracy, the following information regarding staffing and Station 2 is true:

1. SAFER Grant & Staffing Levels

• In 2023, the Fire Department was awarded a federal SAFER grant to increase staffing by four personnel to help bring the City closer to NFPA standards.

• This increase occurred in 2023 — not 2025.

• The SAFER grant is a five-year contract: the first three years are fully funded by the federal government, and the final two years are funded by the municipality.

• If staffing levels are reduced at any point during these five years, the municipality would be in breach of the contract and required to repay the award — over one million dollars.

• Additionally, the City agreed to a labor contract with the IAFF Local 3063 in July 2025 that further addresses these staffing requirements.

2. Station 2 Closure & Financial Impact

• The estimated cost savings from closing Station 2 is approximately $11,000 per year.

• Closing the station will increase the City’s ISO rating by at least one point, resulting in higher commercial insurance premiums — driving businesses and revenue away from Fulton rather than supporting growth.

The Fulton Fire Department is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of retired firefighter Danny Knight. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
