✨ Learning. Leading. Serving. Making a difference.

Sixth-grade students from Glencoe Middle School, Hokes Bluff Middle School, Rainbow Middle School, and Sardis Middle School are embarking on an exciting journey through the American Character Program!

With the support of local and state sponsors, students will explore civics, history, character, careers, and financial literacy in a way that brings learning to life. Through engaging comic-book-style lessons, hands-on activities, and classroom experiences, students will discover the stories of influential American figures and learn how their own character can make a difference.

But this program goes beyond the classroom! 💡

Through the Good Characters service-learning component, students will work alongside local mentors to identify real issues and develop meaningful solutions that can positively impact their communities and beyond. 🤝

Their journey will culminate in a Good Characters Expo, where students will showcase their innovative ideas, service projects, and the positive difference they made.

A special thank you to Etowah County Community Alliance for making this incredible program possible and providing our students with an opportunity to learn, lead, and put their character into action!

We can’t wait to see how these young put their character into action! 💙

🌟 Principal Spotlight: Brian Alred 🌟

Glencoe High School is proud to welcome Brian Alred into his first full year as principal! A 1998 graduate of Glencoe High School, Brian is entering his 18th year in education and brings a deep connection to the Glencoe community and a strong commitment to serving students, families, and staff.

After earning his bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University and his master’s degree from the University of Alabama, Brian has served students and families throughout Etowah County at West End High School, Hokes Bluff Middle School, and Glencoe High School.

For Brian, one of the most rewarding parts of education is watching students grow not only academically, but as individuals. He believes every student has unique gifts and the potential to succeed when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged. His goal is to build a school culture rooted in high expectations, meaningful relationships, and continuous growth, where every student and educator has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Outside of school, Brian enjoys spending time with his wife, Christy, their three children, and grandson, Tatum. He also enjoys working out, riding dirt bikes, and cheering on the Auburn Tigers!

This honor recognizes districts that achieve a 92% or higher completion rate in two LETRS® courses, a reflection of the dedication of our educators to strengthening their knowledge and skills in the Science of Reading.

👏 Congratulations to our teacher for their commitment to professional learning and, most importantly, to helping every student become a stronger reader!

The Alabama Reading Initiative would like to recognize districts who have achieved the honor of being named a Science of Reading Gold Certified District for 2026 by achieving a 92% or higher completion rate in two LETRS® courses!

🌟 Principal Spotlight: Erika Sullivan 🌟
New Principal, Glencoe Middle School

We are excited to introduce Erika Sullivan as the new Principal of Glencoe Middle School! With 23 years of experience in education, Mrs. Sullivan brings a strong commitment to students, a passion for learning, and a desire to help every student reach their full potential.

Mrs. Sullivan is a graduate of Oxford High School, Jacksonville State University, and the University of West Alabama, where she pursued studies in Collaborative Education, Library Media, and Instructional Leadership. Her diverse educational background has helped prepare her to lead, support, and inspire students and educators.

For Mrs. Sullivan, one of the most rewarding parts of education is watching students learn and succeed. She loves seeing students grow in confidence, overcome challenges, and experience those moments when their hard work pays off. 💙

When she is not at school, Mrs. Sullivan enjoys traveling, reading, sewing, and spending time with her family and her dog.

As she begins this new chapter at Glencoe Middle School, Mrs. Sullivan is looking forward to building strong relationships with students, families, faculty, and the community while helping create a school where students are encouraged to learn, grow, and succeed.
