Now imagine the flooding was caused by the state. That is what is happening to the people of Elba, Alabama, and the historic Black community of Shiloh.

26 sites are safe to swim this week on the Coosa- heck yeah! We are issuing 4 water quality alerts and multiple low dissolved oxygen alerts. See the full data at CoosaRiver.org/SwimGuide!

Our rules for swimming safely:
1. If our alert is red, we advise you to completely limit contact with the river.
2. If our alert is yellow, we advise you to swim with caution.
3. No matter the water color, clarity, always wait 48 hours after a rain to swim; always wash off after a swim; & keep your cuts/bug bites clean and covered!

Coosa Riverkeeper and other environmental nonprofit groups have been fighting against Alabama utilities’ plans to “cap-in-place” their coal ash ponds- a decision that puts the health and well-being of Alabamians at risk.
