Our School Resource Officers recently gathered under the Broad Street bridge for a group photo ahead of the school year.
While we were getting set up, a young man walked by with his mom. He couldn’t take his eyes off our deputies — and they noticed. So they waved him over and asked if he wanted to be in the picture. You could see the excitement in his eyes.
That right there is the whole thing.
Law enforcement takes a beating for the actions of a few. But behind the overwhelming majority of these badges is somebody’s mom or dad. A granddad. A neighbor. Somebody who decided they’d spend their career standing between the dangers of this world and people like that little boy and his mama.
It’s a calling. It’s not always easy. But days like this make it worth every bit of it.
To our SROs, law enforcement officers, and first responders — thank you for what you do for our kids.
