This week for National Safety Month, we're bringing attention to arguably the most common safety concern of them all — our roads.
Motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and the three biggest factors are ones we can all control:
• Speeding — Speed is a factor in roughly one out of three traffic fatalities nationwide. The faster you're going, the less time you have to react and the harder the impact. It's not worth it.
• Distracted Driving — Texting and driving is illegal in Alabama. At 55 mph, reading a text takes your eyes off the road for the length of a football field. No message is worth a life.
• Seatbelts — Alabama law requires all front seat occupants to wear a seatbelt. Seatbelts reduce the risk of death in a crash by 45%. Buckle up — every single time.
These simple details could be the difference between what saves your life and the lives of others.
