Friday was bittersweet as we celebrated Iva Nelson’s retirement from the City of Gadsden after 42 incredible years. In my time as Mayor, and long before, Iva has been a cornerstone of our team. She has a servant's heart, and we will miss having her at city hall. Congratulations on your retirement, Iva! I wish you nothing but birdies, eagles, and straight drives in this next round of life.

Gadsden has the best public works crew around! They’ve been busy working on traffic, paving, and drainage projects on the mountain, in District 1, and Downtown. I’m proud of the crew for completing these important projects to make Gadsden look its best, and for providing these invaluable services! Thank you Howell Matthews, Ty Jackson, David Cooper, and Nathan Fank for your leadership through these projects.

I’m excited about the new improvements at The Amp and what they mean for making it a concert and event venue everyone can enjoy. The new benches, stage covering, and upgraded artist areas have made it amazing to kick off the concert series.

I hope you’ll grab your tickets and come see it for yourself. https://tickets.eventhub.net/profile/amp-2

I had a great time this morning celebrating PENCCO at their ribbon cutting. I want to thank Justin Strickland with OmniTRAX for bringing this incredible project to Gadsden, and to David Hooks and the Industrial Development Authority for their consistent commitment to growing our city’s manufacturing base. Projects like this happen because of strong partnerships, and I’m grateful for everyone who played a role in getting Pencco set up in Gadsden.

I had a wonderful time eating lunch with and speaking to the Women’s Club of Gadsden this afternoon! These women are an integral part of the community, and are great supporters of Gadsden. Thank you, ladies, for having me.

We have multiple trees down across the city due to the storms. Please be patient and stay safe. Do not approach or touch downed power lines under any circumstances.

We also have a fallen-in culvert that will need repairs. At this time, we are aware of issues on Vandell Blvd, Lookout Mountain Parkway near Bellevue Church, and a culvert near the new Minth property.

If you see additional storm damage or hazards, please report them through the Hey Gadsden app.

I want to thank our Public Works employees for all they do to keep our city safe and operating during situations like this.

Today, I’d like us all to pause and remember those we have lost in service to our country. The courage and sacrifice of every man and woman make the freedom we live in possible. As we live in peace today, we should take a moment to reflect on the service of the Armed Forces member who gave us a gift we can never repay.
