Yesterday’s memorial service was a reminder of the danger our first responders face every day and what their job truly means.

These three men – Fire Chief James Ralph Speer, Fire Medic Michael Patrick, and Fire Medic Michael Thornton sacrificed their lives for the citizens of Gadsden. Their courage, dedication, and service will never be forgotten. We will always continue to honor their memory.

Please join the Gadsden Fire Department for this Memorial Event on Monday, August 31st at Central Fire Station.

On August 31, 2026, the Gadsden Fire Department will gather at Central Station to mark the 50th anniversary of the tragic August 31, 1976 explosion that claimed the lives of three of our brothers and injured many others.

We will come together to honor Fire Chief James Ralph Speer, Fire Medic Michael Patrick, and Fire Medic Michael Thornton, and to remember all those whose lives were forever changed that day.

Fifty years later, their sacrifice has not been forgotten. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Gadsden, THANK YOU!

I am deeply honored and humbled to have been re-elected to serve as your Mayor for a second term.

This victory is about more than one person. It’s about a community that believes in Gadsden and believes in what we can accomplish when we work together.

Over the past four years, we’ve secured more than $25 million in grants and federal appropriations, recruited Minth Group and Pencco, helped bring 1,300+ jobs to our community, invested in public safety and infrastructure, and implemented the GROW Gadsden Plan to guide our future.
But we’re not finished.

I would also like to congratulate my opponent and everyone who ran for City Council. It takes courage and commitment to put your name on the ballot and be willing to serve. That willingness to participate in our democracy says a lot about you and your commitment to Gadsden. Thank you for stepping up.
Now, it’s time to come together and finish what we started.

There are no brakes on progress. Gadsden’s best days are ahead!
