SPAN of Etowah County

SPAN of Etowah County Students that have fallen behind in the credits or grades can catch up at the SPAN Program. Students have a one-hour group session once a day.

The Etowah County SPAN Program is designed to help every student that enrolls to succeed academically and socially through individualized service, improving life skills, and training. The Special Programming for Achievement Network (SPAN) of Etowah County receives referrals for students between the ages of 12-19 from the City School Systems, County School Systems, Attalla Schools, DHR, Eagle Rock

and the JPO office. Students that are seeking the GED can enroll and the academic staff will assist in preparing the students to pass all parts of the test. The SPAN Program will even pay for the practice tests and the GED test so you have no out of pocket cost. All we want is for each student that enrolls to have an chance for a successful adulthood. SPAN guides each student in setting individualized academic and behavior goals. Academic goals consist of returning to public school in or near their correct grade or earning the equivalent of a high school diploma. (GED certificate) Students work at their own pace and receive one-on-one computer assisted instructions from teachers. Behavioral goals are set and achieved through individual and family counseling. The purpose is to provide the students with a forum to work on daily social skills needed to succeed in SPAN and in life.

The Etowah County SPAN Program wants to thank our advisory board president Parker Hardin and Rural Technology Funds for obtaining a grant to purchase a 3D printer, This will help our students by turning abstract ideas into physical objects. Learn how to build digital design, spatial skills, boost problem solving through trail and error. Make hands-on project-based learning possible across subjects like math, science, art, and engineering. I look forward to the upcoming school year and seeing what comes out of this printer!!! Thank you again Parker!!!!

"Maria" enrolled in the SPAN Program on August 19, 2025 on the verge of dropping out of high school. A young mom trying to navigate work and academics she found herself falling further and further behind. Her school sent "Maria" to the SPAN Program. She was nearly two years behind in credits to graduate. There were many times as a staff we would question if Maria was going to finish all her classes. Luckily for her she had a teacher that fought hard to keep Maria motivated and on track. On May 5, 2026 Maria completed all the credits she needed to return to school and become a high school graduate!!!! We are so proud of Maria and her accomplishments and look forward to helping her navigate a new chapter in her life. SPAN continues to be the true motto of No Child Left Behind.
