The Etowah County SPAN Program is designed to help every student that enrolls to succeed academically and socially through individualized service, improving life skills, and training. The Special Programming for Achievement Network (SPAN) of Etowah County receives referrals for students between the ages of 12-19 from the City School Systems, County School Systems, Attalla Schools, DHR, Eagle Rock
and the JPO office. Students that are seeking the GED can enroll and the academic staff will assist in preparing the students to pass all parts of the test. The SPAN Program will even pay for the practice tests and the GED test so you have no out of pocket cost. All we want is for each student that enrolls to have an chance for a successful adulthood. SPAN guides each student in setting individualized academic and behavior goals. Academic goals consist of returning to public school in or near their correct grade or earning the equivalent of a high school diploma. (GED certificate) Students work at their own pace and receive one-on-one computer assisted instructions from teachers. Behavioral goals are set and achieved through individual and family counseling. The purpose is to provide the students with a forum to work on daily social skills needed to succeed in SPAN and in life.
