***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT***

We are aware of a large mulch fire actively burning in the 4400 block of S. Grundy Quarles Highway. Fire crews have responded with assistance from the Tennessee Department of Forestry, who have used a dozer to cut a fire line around the affected area.

Due to the size of the mulch pile and the fire burning beneath the surface, crews are currently unable to effectively extinguish the fire. These types of fires can burn deep within a mulch pile and may continue to smolder for an extended period of time.

Rest assured, the fire is contained and is not going anywhere. Crews will continue to monitor the area and take action as needed.

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while we work to safely manage the situation.

⚠️Neighbors helping Neighbors⚠️

Our department throught the years have been bless with equipment donations from departments as far as New York. Also we have been bless receiving grants to be able to purchase equipment.

As of today we was able to return the favor to a department in need. Members from the Cumberlan County Search and Rescue Squad in KY receive turnout gear such as, jackets, pants, boots, gloves, and hoods.Dual reel hydraulic power unit.

This equipment has been donated to our department, and have since been replace.

⚠️⚠️ Event Fundraiser Announcement / Save the Date ⚠️⚠️

We are getting closer to our annual Gainesboro Fall Festival and Car Show that will be held on Saturday, October 3 on the square in Gainesboro. We are currently looking for sponsors for the car show so if you have a business and would like to be a sponsor, reach out to us and we will send you the information.

As in years past, we have partnered with Gib-Flo Farms for the Fall Festival portion of the event. Feel free to contact Tara at Gib-Flo Farms if you are interested in having a booth at the event. All booths, along with all the activities at the festival are free of charge with the only cost being cars that are entered into the Car Show itself.

Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home will once again sponsor the inflatable slide that will on the Courthouse Lawn and be free of charge to anyone wanting to slide.

And finally, the Car Show itself is presented by Fox Florist and Gifts. They have been the title sponsor for the car show since the beginning in 2011 and our department can not express our gratitude enough for them and the resources they provide to make this event possible each and every year.

We have lots of new things in the works for the show this year and will be announcing them as the event gets closer.

Our department was glad we could provide additional manpower to assist PCFD in the incident. We are fortunate to have mutual aid agreements in place with neighboring departments so incidents like these can operate smoothly when they occur.

On May 26 our department, along with Dodson Branch, Fairview, Flynns Lick and West-End Fire Departments gathered to celebrate our 9 newly certified firefighters. These members completed the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy Introduction to Emergench Services, Basic Firefighting and Firefighter 1 Live Burn. These classes totaled over 100 hours of classroom and hands on training, including two days at the Fire Academy in Bell Buckle TN. The following are the members and their departments they represented:

Natanyah Varela - Central FD
Javier Peralta - Central FD
Keenan Rich - Dodson Branch FD (Not Pictured)
Emily Varela - Fairview FD
Chad Blair - Flynns Lick FD
Matthew Sizemore - Flynns Lick FD
Carter Stafford - West-End FD

Our department wants to express our appreciation to all the newly certified firefighters that volunteered their time to complete this training to be able to better serve the community.

We would also like to thank the Jackson County Rescue Squad for allowing us to use their building for the class and the Putnam County Fire Department for allowing the students to come and utilize their training props during class.

During our monthly department meeting in May, our department had the honor of taking ownership of an American Flag that had previously flown at the Capital Building in Washington DC. Our department would like to thank Melissa Dawes, our local Library Director, for requesting the flag be presented to our department and Derek Lane from Congressman John Rose Office for making this project a reality.

We are in the process of purchasing and installing a new flag pole at our Center Grove Station and will hopefully have this flag displayed at that Station before long.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ Outdoor Burn Alert ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Our department wanted to advise all the citizens of Jackson County to use extreme caution when burning any brush or fallen trees outdoors. We understand with the weather warming up and everyone starts to clean up the area outside that burning any extra vegetation that has fallen is the easiest option. We are still in the time of year that requires a burn permit through the TN Division of Forestry which can be obtained at the link below.

Due to the weather and wind conditions for the day you are burning, the State may not be issuing burn permits for then so always obtain your permit prior to starting any type of outside fire on your property.
