Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary

Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary Providing lifelong sanctuary to nearly 200 monkeys rescued from research labs, pet homes, and entertainment.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to giving primates the freedom, care, and dignity they deserve. Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary is located on 44 acres in Gainesville, Florida. We offer sanctuary for monkeys retired from research, ex-pets, or monkeys who have been confiscated. Jungle Friends is committed to advocacy on behalf of all captive primates, and to provide assistance to improve their circ

umstances in captivity wherever possible. While our immediate responsibility is to provide for the monkeys at our sanctuary, our mission is to engage the interest and support of our community. Every monkey retired from research, or rescued from a life of abuse or neglect becomes a part of our message that these beings are worthy of our efforts and must be included in our moral universe.

Happy Bday Annabelle!
Twenty years ago today, a little Weeper Capuchin came into this world. She spent years in conditions no animal should ever endure - a rusted cage, a moldy trailer, barely enough food or water to survive (see photo). But she made it through, and in 2012, she found her way to Jungle Friends.
Now? She eats her veggies first, does dramatic yoga poses for anyone who watches, and spends her days play-wrestling with her partner Frankie. ๐Ÿ’•
From rags to birthday cake - Annabelle is living her absolute best life now!

Want to help make Annabelle's birthday extra special? Send her a birthday gift, favorite treats, or make a donation in her honor!

Last of our 3 birthdays today... Rico turns 8 today!!

Rico was stolen from his mother as a baby in Florida, shuffled between homes, and ended up in Las Vegas before a good Samaritan named Frank made the call that changed everything.

He arrived here so tiny that staff took turns through the night making sure he always had his formula.

Now? He runs through his outdoor habitat, chats up anyone who walks by, and is obsessed with toys.

From Las Vegas to a life that's Almost Wild. Rico's glow-up is something else.

Want to send him a toy or learn more about him. Click on his page for his wishlist.

Next up on today's birthday lineup - our second oldest birthday monkey, Linny, turns 15 today!!

Linny is one of the 26 retired squirrel monkeys from FDA ni****ne research - the first group of monkeys EVER released from federal testing. CNN covered it. History was made.

And Linny's response to freedom? Becoming the sanctuary's self-appointed gossip correspondent. If something is happening at JF, he knows.

His weakness? Green beans.

Learn more about his backstory on his page:

Triple birthday alert!! We have THREE monkeys celebrating today, and we're posting in order of age - so first up, our birthday girl Kooda, who turns 34 today!!

Kooda is one of the smallest capuchins at the sanctuary. She spent 21 years as a pet and arrived here with metabolic bone disease, a curved spine, and stunted growth.

What she did NOT arrive with? Any intention of slowing down.

She climbs. She forages. She grooms her troop. She's reserved around people - but if she really likes you, she has one very specific way of letting you know. ๐Ÿคจ
Want to know her secret signal? Find out more in her bio...

Wish our girl many more birthdays in the comments!
