We recently received a TexTreasures Original Grant to digitize editions of the Gainesville Daily Register. This grant will find the digitization of years 1958 - 1970.

UNT Libraries is currently scanning newspapers. They recently uploaded the beginning of this project to The Portal to Texas History. You can access these newspapers anywhere you have internet access!

This project is made possible in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (Grant # LS-260847-OLS-26) to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under the provisions of the Texas Services and Technology Act. (2027)

We had our first "1 2 3 The Story is Coming to Me" outreach for the semester at St. Mary's Catholic School. We had so much fun exploring library books together, and each child received a book to keep thanks to a 2026 Better World Books Literacy Grant. Our Library Director, Kimberly Reiter, spoke at Kiwanis Club of Gainesville this week. Members learned of all the projects the Library currently has underway.

One of our announcements is that the Library recently received a TexTreasures Original 2027 Grant in the amount of $40,000!

This grant will digitize the Gainesville Daily Register newspapers from 1958 to 1970 and make them available on the The Portal to Texas History. Generations to come will be able to search these newspapers for articles about their families, our community, and local and national events.

Zooper Reads is coming up in just two weeks! Enjoy a morning at the zoo with your family. Admission is paid thanks to a PenTex Energy Charitable Foundation: Operation Roundup Grant.

Children will also receive a book to read to the animals and then add to their home library.

Green Light! Red Light!
While we know what this means, can you believe there was a time that red didn't automatically register as stop and green didn't mean go? There was a bit of confusion when the first traffic lights were brought to Gainesville in 1937.

The 2026 Better World Books Literacy Grant is providing funding to this year's "123 the Story is Coming to Me" preschool outreach project. Library staff will visit preschools and childcare centers across the county to promote library services and spark that early love of reading. Each child will be given a book of their own to add to their home library.
