The 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day, referred to as the 100 days of summer, are nationally known as the most dangerous time for teen drivers. Studies by AAA and The Florida Safe Teen Driving Coalition both indicate a sharp increase in fatal crashes with teen drivers behind the wheel, thereby dubbing the time as the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩.

As a community, we need to have an honest conversation about intimate partner violence. While it can be difficult to discuss, the reality is that this issue affects far too many individuals and families.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, intimate partner violence impacts millions of people in the United States each year. More than 1 in 3 women (nearly 43.5 million) and more than 1 in 6 men (20.7 million) have experienced contact s*xual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

Gainesville is not immune to this violence. Last year (2025) we responded to 2,347 domestic calls for service.

Behind these statistics are our neighbors, friends, coworkers, and loved ones. Intimate partner violence can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, help is available. You are not alone.

By raising awareness, supporting survivors, and speaking openly about this issue, we can work together to build a safer and healthier community for everyone.

Corporal Owens and our School Resource Officers are continuing their efforts to place lockdown buckets in every classroom across the city. These buckets are designed to help support students during stressful situations, such as lockdowns.

Currently, the buckets include items like wipes, notebooks, small comfort items such as fidgets and Play-Doh, pens, pencils, markers, and glow sticks.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Matthew Lillard and everyone at Dollar General Distribution for donating $2,500 worth of supplies to help fill these buckets. Their donation included trash bags, wipes, tissues, water, and hand sanitizer.

Thank you, Matthew and Dollar General Distribution, for supporting this important initiative and helping us care for the children and schools in our community.

So far, GPD officers have issued more than 100 citations and warnings to unrestrained motorists during the Click It or Ticket campaign, which continues through Sunday, May 31.

Seatbelts save lives every day and buckling up should be the first thing you do when you get in your vehicle. Please wear your seatbelt — it’s the easiest way to protect yourself and avoid a costly citation.

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, registered s*x offender Joshua Bryan (07/13/1986) was given five consecutive sentences of five years (25 total) for Violation of Probation.

On June 26, 2025, Gainesville’s ICAC Unit (Internet Crimes Against Children), with the assistance of patrol support, served a search warrant on Bryan’s residence after receiving a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The CyberTip indicated that a user of an online adult dating site had uploaded and shared an image of child s*xual abuse material through the platform.

Through further investigation, Detective Montague of the Gainesville Police Department, who was familiar with Bryan due to a 2021 arrest that resulted in 48 months of imprisonment (followed by S*x Offender Probation), was able to violate and charge Bryan on six counts of failing to update/register/report S*xual Offender account information. All of his electronics were seized and forensic analysis was conducted, which later confirmed that he was the user described within the CyberTip. Bryan is still awaiting sentencing on the additional charges.

The Gainesville Police Department wants parents to be aware that children are being solicited and exploited through social networking and messaging apps. We encourage parents to have age-appropriate conversations with their children about the dangers of the internet. Please be vigilant and aware of any social networking platforms your children may access. If you have any questions about this incident, please contact GPD Detective Donna Montague at: 352-393-7730 or [email protected].

Just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night, multiple officers responded to Creeks Edge Condos, located at 1810 NW 23rd Boulevard, after receiving several calls reporting gunshots in the area.

Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The suspect, identified as Xavion Perry III (10/5/1994), fled the area immediately following the shooting. Officers quickly began efforts to locate Perry and his vehicle.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., Perry’s vehicle was spotted in Daytona Beach, where the Daytona Beach Police Department initiated a pursuit. The Volusia Sheriff's Office also assisted in the pursuit. During the incident, Perry abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

At this time, the suspect is not believed to be in the Gainesville area. Law enforcement agencies in Volusia County continue actively searching for Perry.

This remains an active investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gainesville Police Department at 352-393-7500. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Alachua County Crime Stoppers Inc or by calling 352-372-STOP (7867).
