Happy National Dragonfly Day, Sweetwater Fans!
These beautiful insects have been around for over 300 million years and have ancestors with nearly 3 foot wingspans! Today, we appreciate the much smaller version with their beautiful jewel colors and, for their ability to eat upwards of 100 mosquitoes a day! Dragonflies are the fastest flying insects in the world with top speeds of 35mph and their nymph or larval stage can live underwater for years. Many cultures have celebrated these beautiful creatures as symbol of good luck, prosperity, and adaptability.
Hope to see you at the park!

It's turtle laying season! You will be seeing a lot more of the Softshell turtles (or as we like to call them, the Sweetwater Sock Puppets!), Sliders, and Cooters out of the water and scoping out a safe place on the embankments and berms to lay eggs. Please do not approach as you may startle females away from a nesting area. And please remain on the trails to avoid accidently stepping on a new turtle nest.
Hope to see you at the park!
