Early voting for the Democratic Primary Elections are underway for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General, as well as House of Delegates Districts 2, 31 and 50 representing Prince William County.

The deadline to register to vote is May 17. Please ensure that you are able to cast your ballot for these critical races. In addition, the deadline to request a mail in ballot is May 28 and both items can be done through the Prince William County's Office of Elections. We strongly encourage you to not wait until the deadline for either of these actions, as we know it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Early in-person voting for all these races will continue through Saturday, June 5, at three locations:
• A.J. Ferlazzo Building, 15941 Donald Curtis Dr., Woodbridge, VA 22191
• Prince William Office of Elections, 9250 Lee Ave., Suite 1,
Manassas, VA 20110
• Haymarket Gainesville Community Library, 14870 Lightner Rd.,
Haymarket, VA 20169

The days and times for early voting at these locations are as follows in the attached flyer.

In the past, the Prince William Office of Elections has used the Woodbridge DMV for early voting. However, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and limited parking at the DMV, voting is moved to the Ferlazzo Building.

For any additional details, please visit the Prince William County Office of Elections website.

Please see the official statement of the PWC steering committee regarding Collective Bargaining.

Audio: PW County Supervisor Says the Quiet Part Out Loud, Argues When You Build Apartments, “you’re not getting Joe Republican moving in”

Supervisor Candland has finally spoken out loud what we have all heard him intimate, whisper, and infer. He did it when we discussed inherent bias and he shared “I enjoy representing the people that I do and I hope to do it for a long time” and he did it again when he said, ‘you’re not getting Joe Republican moving in with people buying townhomes and living in apartments’ recently.

As we sit in the shadow of a pivotal land vote, Supervisor Candland has made it abundantly clear that the motivation for not supporting the Independent Small Area plan has nothing to do with preserving the rural area, and everything to do with keeping “others” out of the western part of the County. After all, it is not too rural when it butts up against a 4-lane, to be 6-lane thoroughfare, is 12 or so miles from I95, and about the same from the Montclair commuter lot. This does not scream Rural Area.

His statements wreaks of “REDLINING”, “SEGREGATIONIST PHILOSOPHY’, “VOTER SUPPRESSION”, “JIM CROW”. This is unacceptable for anyone, let alone an elected official. How could he possibly be representing all individuals? I happen to know many dozen brown and black families in his district, it is obvious he is not representing them.

It is also obvious that his vote on Tuesday will be rooted in ensuring that only individuals that can afford $600K homes should be allowed to move into the western corridor of the County. Which speaks to a broader point of how land use policies are actually social policies; institutional constructs designed to keep poor and less upwardly mobile people in one area, thereby containing and restricting their vote, and their voice, while amplifying the voices of the minority in more affluent pockets. This is the epitome of regressive policy and maintaining the white hierarchical system in our society, this is January 6th.

We will not be governed by January 6’ers in our County. The Independent Hill Small Area Plan, needs to be approved and Pete Candland needs to go.

Hey Brentsville,

This is the season of thanks, reflections, and joy - and let’s be honest, 2020 has been a little saccharine and hard as well. Spending special times with special people, reminiscing about the past years’, hopes and dreams, fulfilled and deferred. As we are in this season, I cannot help but stop and take a moment to thank each and every one of you for a memorable year. We have done much this past year, have met and overcome significant challenges, and felt the pain of loss, of efforts and life. However, through it all, I have to say how thankful I am to have had the opportunity to work with all of you. To get to know you all through zoom, over chicken, and in your garages, at the polls, and in your driveways. I thank you all for the minutes or for the hours of your most precious asset, your time, that you shared not only with me, but with all of the Brentsville Democratic Committee.

I am humbled to be a part of this great team and just wanted to thank you all, and wish you all a joyous, and happy Holiday Season and may your God, continue to bless and protect you and your family.

Sincerely,

Sam Chisolm
BMDDC Chair

Virginia House committee passes Guzman bill to mandate paid quarantine leave

Delegate Guzman’s Quarantine Bill Passes! Virginia workers scored a preliminary victory on Wednesday when a House committee approved two bills on paid quarantine leave and workers’ compensation -- both major concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic. An associated budget amendment will authorize the use of federal COVID-19 relief funds to provide paid quarantine leave to state employees; employees of political subdivisions; and employees of specific social service agencies, home care agencies, and non-profits providing essential services. The amendment also requires that 20 percent of Virginia’s un-expended CARES Act funds for small business relief be used to support quarantine leave for small business employees.

My Friend...Good Morning and Happy Labor Day!

I’m texting you all because the Dems Board members need our support. As you might know we have a very serious vote on tomorrow, 9/8/20, for the deferred Alan Myers Project in Gainesville and the Comp Plan Change for Rte. 28 and reconsideration of the late July unanimous vote on item 2B to refuse the $89million from NVTA. We, have to pass both tomorrow to keep our promise for progressive development and better infrastructure for the county.

Please register to speak during citizens time in support of both agenda items. Please go online and register to speak after re-reading or re-looking at the last video tape in July.

We need to support!
