My dear friends and family, Brenda and I have come to a painful realization that we're too old for this.

As a man with 2 artificial hips, shoulders that have both had surgery on and probably will again soon, plus a broken back, but worst of all the determination to be the best I can be (I got that from my Dad and also the U.S. Army 40 years ago.

Brenda and I moved here 2.5 years ago fell in love with the area and the community, joined Timber K**b VFD to try and repay the kindness that we've been shown since we got here. We're also the sole caregivers for my 87 year old Father.

We've both been retired from the workforce for several years, however I took the fire department very serious and attempted to make every call that came in. I've hunted exactly 4 days and fished 3 days in the last 2 years because I never wanted to miss a call, that's NOT retirement. We have so many projects that we want to do on our property and realize that my father's good years are dwindling.

I've spoken to 2 TKVFD Board members and tendered my resignation, effective immediately we are 100% retired, we're going to spend our days and nights making the best of the years we have left with Dad, hunting, fishing, working on garden and whatever the hell else we want to do.

To the community of Firefighters we're leaving, may God bless, guide and protect you as you do the dangerous job you've been called to do.

The land owner where we had the fire yesterday is a dues paying member of the Timber K**b fire district. That's fortunate for him and a learning experience for others.
There were 8 fire vehicles and 18 firefighters on scene for 3 hours. That would have been very costly for the land owner had he not been a member.

If you or any neighbors or friends or family live in a fire protection district and are not dues paying members learn from this.

A huge thanks to our new friends and brothers Maeystown VFD for donating a truck load of SCBAs and Bunker Gear and for making Brenda and I feel so welcomed by Brian Coats (Board Member), Captain Rob Lelly and Firefighter Michael Callahan. And to Chief Lynden Prange, you have one heck of a department and thank you for honoring us with your gifts.
