Our Story
On a quest to make the world a better place- one vegetable at a time.
📷 The Union Street Farmers Market was held for the first time on April 3, 1996. Formed by a dedicated small group of local farmers with the assistance of Ken and Linda McGurn and the City of Gainesville, the original purpose of the market was twofold: 1] to provide local farmers a new venue to sell their produce at retail prices; and 2] to create a weekly family oriented event in the Union Street entertainment district that would reflect the vibrant diversity of this university community.
After eleven great years in the Sun Center the market moved to the downtown Bo Diddley Community Plaza. Having evolved into the preeminent weekly event for this area the market hosts 60 plus vendors each week.
Every Wednesday- rain or shine- 52 weeks of the year they come together from 4-7pm with our loyal customers and help continue our quest to make the world a better place- one vegetable at a time.
