Wednesday April 17 was the final market for Union Street after its revival in October of 2023. First a big thank you to loyal vendors who remained until the end. Another thanks goes to the cadre of loyal customers who tried to support the effort by coming down to Bo Diddley each week. to paraphrase e. e. cummings:
This is the way the market will end
This is the way the market will end
This is the way the market will end
Not with a bang
But a whimper

Many thanks to the people who responded to last weeks post and came to Bo Diddley Plaza on the 13th. The increased number of customers was commented on by the vendors and reflected in their sales. Please join us again-this Wednesday from 4-7PM along with another friend or two, and lets keep the momentum building.

The new iteration of the Union Street Farmers Market is approaching a critical crossroads. For over six months now- rain or shine a group of loyal vendors has offered quality products to this community. Though many have expressed their happiness over the return of the market to downtown Gainesville, it is not translating into enough customers coming to the market regularly and purchasing from the vendors each week. With the amount of expense it requires to put on the market without more customers coming down and supporting the vendors the market will not continue. So please do your part by coming as many Wednesday's as possible and bring a friend. The clock is ticking.

Our Story

On a quest to make the world a better place- one vegetable at a time.

📷 The Union Street Farmers Market was held for the first time on April 3, 1996. Formed by a dedicated small group of local farmers with the assistance of Ken and Linda McGurn and the City of Gainesville, the original purpose of the market was twofold: 1] to provide local farmers a new venue to sell their produce at retail prices; and 2] to create a weekly family oriented event in the Union Street entertainment district that would reflect the vibrant diversity of this university community.

After eleven great years in the Sun Center the market moved to the downtown Bo Diddley Community Plaza. Having evolved into the preeminent weekly event for this area the market hosts 60 plus vendors each week.

Every Wednesday- rain or shine- 52 weeks of the year they come together from 4-7pm with our loyal customers and help continue our quest to make the world a better place- one vegetable at a time.
