Today, deputies from the Reserve Unit assisted with the Night to Shine, an unforgettable prom experience for special needs individuals ages 14 and older. The event celebrates those with disabilities, sharing faith, hope and love.

The ACSO was honored and humbled to participate in the 2017 SWAG Bicycle Rehab and Safety Event in the Tower Oaks neighborhood this past Saturday. The Event was a great success as SWAG gave away over 50 bikes, new helmets, new locks and new light kits. Deputies Ricky Robinson, Carlos McWatters and David Brown were there to interact with the children and talk with them about bicycle safety. These Deputies are well known by the children either due to them patrolling their neighborhoods or being within their schools. The relationships that are being built and strengthened through SWAG with our Deputies and the communities youth continues to pay great dividends!

ACSO Weekend Briefing
April 7th-9th, 2017

ACSO Team II Patrol was responsible for the policing of your county during this past weekend. During the course of the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, these Deputies were responsible for the handling of over 800 recorded calls for service. Below are some cases of note:

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Poss. Of a Firearm by Convicted Felon

On 4-9-17 at 1:19 a.m. multiple District II and III night shift deputies responded to Majestic Oaks in reference to a shooting that had just occurred. When Deputies arrived on scene, they located 3 female victims, un-injured, who stated that a known male subject just fired several shots at them. Victims and witnesses identified, JB JACKSON JR (Pictured Below), who has an extensive history with ACSO for weapons and violent crimes. Jackson is also a convicted felon. One victim stated that she made eye contact with Jackson who then pulled out a silver revolver and told her she was going to die tonight. At least five to six rounds were fired at the female and her two friends. The incident required the assistance of ACSO Detectives, Crime Scene and Victim Advocates. Probable Cause to issue an Arrest Warrant for Jackson was developed and upon approval by an Alachua County Judge, the Arrest Warrant was obtained with a $400,000.00 bond.

The following day, 04/10/2017, the Gainesville Police Department conducted a traffic stop where Jackson was located in the passenger seat of the vehicle and arrested without incident.

Armed Robbery

On 04/09/17 at 1:55 a.m., District I night shift deputies responded to the 4800 block of SE Hawthorne Road in reference to the report of an Armed Robbery to a person that had just occurred. The Victim advised responding Deputies that a black male wearing a black and gray hoodie with blue and white jeans and red tennis shoes approached him from behind with a firearm and demanded all of his money. The Victim complied before the suspect fled the area on foot.

Additional units from the Gainesville Police Department assisted with providing a perimeter and a K9 was used for tracking.
At this time, the suspect has not been located and any citizen having information regarding this crime is urged to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 352-372-STOP!

The Alachua County Sheriff's Reserve Unit is actively seeking applicants that are currently certified law enforcement.
This is a great opportunity for retired law enforcement officers to keep their standards active. Reserve Deputies volunteer their time in a variety of areas within the agency including, but not limited to Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Special Investigations, Traffic Enforcement, and Community Policing.

Last month the Alachua County Sheriff's Office held its annual swearing-in ceremony, which included Deputies from our Reserve Unit! The Alachua County Sheriff's Office requires Reserve Deputies to volunteer their time through all of the formal training requirements that full-time Deputies must undergo. These Reserve Deputies passed all training requirements and are now volunteering their time by patrolling Alachua County and responding to calls for service.
