DNA evidence can tell investigators a lot, but interpreting that evidence takes more than finding a match. 🧬

In WIS6934 Forensic DNA Statistics and Applied Population Genetics, students explore how genomics and population genetics apply to forensic science and forensic DNA analysis, with a strong focus on the theories and models used to interpret DNA typing results.

Throughout the course, students learn about forensic DNA match statistics, likelihood ratios, kinship statistics, DNA mixture interpretation, probabilistic genotyping and massively parallel sequencing.

In wildlife forensic work, these skills can help make DNA evidence clearer, more precise and easier to defend. Learn more about this course below! ⬇️

Happy National Wildlife Day! Today we’re celebrating the incredible wildlife we share our planet with.🌎

From the animals in our own backyards and neighborhoods to species across the globe, wildlife is all around us. But many of these animals are facing growing threats from habitat loss, climate change, exploitation and wildlife crime.

Today is a reminder of why protecting wildlife and their habitats matters. Here’s to keeping wildlife wild and protecting the places they call home.💙
