Another day with a dangerous heat index today. This where that "feels like" temperature is extremely important to pay attention to. Your body doesn't know (or care) what the *actual* air temp is - what it does react to is what it feels like. Remember - heat injuries are notoriously "slow burn" and can sneak up on you long before you actually notice them. Stay hydrated, stay indoors as much as possible, and watch out for those vulnerable demographics and pets.

Its official - burn ban in place for the County for at least the next two weeks. Please make sure to abide by the rules listed here and immediately report any observed smoke or fire to 911. Everyone's vigilance will be extremely important to keep wildfires from becoming disasters. Thank you all and stay safe out there.

More heat and dry air expected over the week - this means our fire threat is only going to increase. We cannot stress enough the importance of fire safety right now and we will be discussing implementing a burn ban at Commissioners Court today. Hopefully more to follow soon.

*Important Announcement*

Due to personnel reassignments, the Cooke County Safe Room Rebate Program is currently paused until 21 August. This is just a temporary hold to facilitate a proper and smooth turnover to new personnel who will be taking over responsibility for the program. Until August 21st, we will be unable to process any new applications or requests for inspections.
***This will have NO EFFECT on citizens who already have approved projects in progress.***
Any citizens still interested in participating in the program may still apply and their applications will be processed in the order they were received AFTER 21 August.
Any citizens who have completed the installation of their shelters and require an inspection can contact us to set an inspection date AFTER 21 August.

For everyone's awareness - hot and dry will be the order of the day for the foreseeable future. This means our risk of fire weather will begin to increase over the next few weeks. While there is no immediate need to implement measures like burn bans yet, everyone will need to exercise greater caution and awareness with any activities that could start fires. If you are planning a burn, please make sure to notify County Dispatch and your local Volunteer Fire Dept first. Also, stay safe out in the heat and don't let yourself or others become a victim of heat injury. Stay safe out there.

Latest update for the City of Valley View water system repair. Again, this only affects those on the Valley View municipal water system. We are continuing to monitor the situation and are standing by to lend the City of Valley View any external support should they request it.

Our heat wave peaks today and we will have some of the highest temps of the week by far. NWS has issued an Extreme Heat Warning that will be in effect until sundown. Be extremely careful if you are doing anything outdoors today, stay hydrated, and watch over anyone who may be more vulnerable.

It will be a hot one today - the NWC has issued a heat advisory for today until 8PM. Try to limit your time outdoors and keep tabs on those who are more vulnerable to the heat. Stay safe (and cool) out there.
