Manufacturing Extension Partnership NIST MEP is a public-private partnership with MEP Centers located across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico dedicated to serving small and medium-sized manufacturers.

The Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is based at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The national Program Office (NIST MEP), which provides the federal government funding for the MEP National Network™, is located in Gaithersburg, MD. The MEP National Network comprises the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (

NIST MEP), the 51 MEP Centers located in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, the MEP Advisory Board, MEP Center boards, and the Foundation for Manufacturing Excellence, as well as over 1,440 trusted advisors and experts at approximately 460 MEP service locations, providing any U.S. manufacturer with access to resources they need to succeed.

The Arizona Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) team recently welcomed NIST MEP staff for a tour of Axon, an Arizona MEP client and the creator of the TASER.

The visit offered a look at advanced manufacturing, automation, and quality systems supporting a company that generates billions in annual revenue. The MEP group saw Axon's quality assurance processes in action, highlighting the importance of rigorous product testing.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Partner-ship (MEP) is seeking applications from eligible applicants to enter into a cooperative agree-ment to operate an MEP Center in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, and Puerto Rico. The MEP Center will provide support to small and medium-sized manufactur-ers (SMMs) to adopt and/or scale up advanced manufacturing technologies that improve U.S. industrial competitiveness and SMM economic outcomes.

While eligibility for the program listed in this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is open to a United States-based non-profit institution, an institution of higher education, or a State, United States territory, local, or tribal government, or a consortium thereof, NIST MEP facili-tates cooperation among private-sector industry partners, government agencies, academic in-stitutions, economic development organizations, and other manufacturing ecosystem stake-holders to demonstrate, deploy, and adopt advanced manufacturing technologies.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the NIST MEP Center State Competition FY2026.

NIST MEP is seeking applications from eligible organizations to enter into a cooperative agreement to operate MEP Centers in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Utah, and Vermont.

These MEP Centers will strengthen manufacturing ecosystems by encouraging the adoption or scale-up of advanced technologies to improve production capacity and capability, supporting supply chain integration, and developing a strong manufacturing workforce. They will also become part of the MEP National Network™.

NIST MEP will host an informational webinar on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 1 p.m. ET. The webinar will provide general information about this NOFO and offer guidance on application preparation.

Join the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for Manufacturing Community Day!

NIST recently issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) announcing a competitive pilot program through the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). The initiative will significantly boost productivity, strengthening America's global economic competitiveness and national security.

This pilot program focuses on developing shared technology frameworks across two vital national priority sectors:

1. Additive Manufacturing for Aerospace Components: Accelerating adoption, validating methods, and reducing barriers to entry for component manufacturers.

2. Domestic Critical Minerals Supply Chain: Transforming fragmented supply chains into robust, resilient domestic ecosystems.

Submissions are limited to current MEP Centers or a consortium of Centers, but success requires collaboration across the entire manufacturing lifecycle, including among industry, academia, NIST, other federal laboratories, and state and local government partners.

To foster these collaborations, Manufacturing Community Day will feature NIST leadership sharing pilot program goals, timelines, and expectations for teaming, along with dedicated sessions to gather industry feedback.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) has issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) for an upcoming Technology Accelerator Pilot Program.

This competitive pilot program will support existing MEP Centers in accelerating the adoption and commercialization of advanced manufacturing technologies that enhance the competitiveness of the domestic industrial base for additive manufacturing of aerospace components and the domestic critical minerals supply chain.
