Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026, at approximately 8:10 p.m., at the intersection of North Frederick Avenue and Professional Drive in Gaithersburg.

Gaithersburg Police Department patrol officers recently conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle stopped and stationary in a traffic lane.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed both the driver and front-seat passenger asleep. Officers were able to wake both occupants and subsequently spoke with them as part of the investigation. During the interaction, the front-seat passenger provided officers with various controlled dangerous substances (CDS), including cannabis, as well as other CDS-related items.

As the investigation continued, officers located a short-barreled rifle inside a backpack.

The driver was issued a citation for the traffic violation. The front-seat passenger, a 22-year-old male, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Central Processing Unit for formal charging. He was subsequently held without bond.

On August 19, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m. officers from the Gaithersburg Police and Montgomery County Police Departments, responded to the Starbucks located in the 500 block of Quince Orchard Road for a report of an individual, believed to be under the influence of controlled dangerous substances (CDS), causing a disturbance. The individual was reportedly blocking vehicles and attempting to climb into the drive through window.

Officers located the individual in the roadway on Quince Orchard Road. He was hallucinating and stated that someone was trying to kill him. The individual admitted to ingesting CDS, and officers requested Fire/Rescue to respond. He was taken into custody without incident for the purpose of an mental health evaluation.

A search of the individual’s belongings revealed two handguns and quantities of CDS. Both handguns were confirmed to be stolen out of Virginia, and the individual was identified as being prohibited from possessing fi****ms.

The individual was transported by medical personnel to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. Upon his discharge, he was transported to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and charged accordingly. The individual was held without bond.

The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in Montgomery County on Sunday, July 12, 2026. On Friday, August 7, 2026, the IID released body-worn camera footage that includes the decedent’s interactions with Montgomery County and Gaithersburg Police Officers.

The Montgomery County Department of Police and Gaithersburg Police have released body-worn camera video from the shooting which also includes footage from multiple responding officers and shows the events leading up to the shooting, as well as the officers’ actions afterwards. Gaithersburg Police Department patrol officers recently conducted a traffic stop for a driving violation, which led to the arrest of a 42-year-old male after officers located a loaded Ta**us G2C handgun inside the vehicle. The driver was determined to be a prohibited possessor and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Central Processing Unit for formal charging and was held without bond.

The driver was arrested and charged with:
• Illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
• Additional firearm-related violations

• Give an audible signal before passing a pedestrian.
• Always yield the right-of-way to pedestrians.
• Keep speeds reasonable:
– 20 mph max for e-bikes/e-scooters operating solely on electric power with no manual pedaling.
– 10 mph max when pedestrians are present.
