Mount Rogers Regional Partnership is excited to share that today, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that OastHouse Ventures will open sustainable indoor farming operations in Wildwood Commerce Park!

Wildwood Commerce Park is owned by the Blue Ridge Crossroads Economic Development Authority (BRCEDA). BRCEDA is a regional industrial facilities authority representing Carroll County, Virginia, Grayson County, Virginia, and Galax City, Virginia. The cooperation and investment of the three localities working together, along with significant investment from the Virginia To***co Region Revitalization Commission and other grant funders, to get the site shovel-ready brought this project to fruition. We are thrilled to welcome Oasthouse Ventures as the first tenant of Wildwood Commerce Park.

A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be opening in at the Heritage Preservation Center at 115 West Spiller Street in Wytheville, Va. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at 8 a.m. Disaster survivors can visit any DRC to receive assistance. This will be the seventh DRC open in the impact area; to find the DRC closest to you, including addresses and hours, visit FEMA.gov/drc or text DRC and a ZIP code to 43362.

A Disaster Recovery Center is an accessible facility that survivors can visit in person to learn more about FEMA and other agencies providing disaster assistance in Virginia. Residents, property owners, and business owners can go to a DRC to apply for assistance and obtain resources from other agencies based on their needs. Survivors do not need an appointment at a DRC to receive assistance.

The center is located at:

Heritage Preservation Center
115 West Spiller Street
Wytheville, VA 24382

Hours of operation:
Monday - Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Closed Sundays

Survivors do not have to visit a DRC to register with FEMA. You can call 800-621-FEMA (3362). The toll-free telephone line operates seven days a week. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service. You can also register online at DisasterAssistance.gov or through the FEMA App on your phone.

The deadline to apply for FEMA disaster assistance is Dec. 2, 2024.
If you have received a letter from FEMA about your application status, visit a DRC to learn more about next steps. DRC staff can help you submit additional information or supporting documentation for FEMA to continue to process your application and answer any questions you may have.

FEMA has set up a rumor response webpage to clarify our role in the Helene response. Visit Hurricane Helene: Rumor Response.

As we all know, our annual Apple Atcha Festival, sponsored by the Wythe-Bland Foundation, is this weekend. Our festival not only celebrates Appalachian culture but is meant to be a gathering place, a community hub, where we support each other and our culture.

To support our community, we have decided to make Apple Atcha Festival 2024 a free community engagement weekend full of events that support and honor our culture. In light of the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene, we decided to make this change to truly support our community and make our festival accessible to all.

Donated goods will still be accepted for Open Door Cafe from now until the festival concludes.

These are the items most needed:
Non-perishable canned goods
Shelf stable milk
Baby formula
Baby wipes
Diapers
Toiletries
Pet food/items
Cleaning supplies

If you have purchased a ticket to our festival, you may either receive a refund or we will donate the sales to United Way of Southwest Virginia which is working with storm-affected localities to distribute funds.

We are and we encourage everyone to come out and take part in our Apple Atcha Festival to celebrate our culture and the strength of our community.
