Stay alert - Stay Safe!!

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT: Severe Storm & Flood Threat Today ⚠️
Conditions will shift dramatically this afternoon as a weather disturbance tracks across the area ahead of a cold front. Intense heat combined with deep moisture will bring a distinct threat for both severe weather and localized flooding. Storms will primarily fire up and move across the mountains during the afternoon hours. By late afternoon and moving into the evening, the activity will push east of the Blue Ridge. The entire area is under a Slight Risk, with damaging wind gusts serving as the primary severe weather threat. Flash flooding is a strong secondary threat. While the area will average about 0.5 inches of rain overall, highly efficient, slow-moving storms could drop localized totals of 2 to 4 inches in a very short period.

Moose Rescue: OIC tones set at 8:28pm (6/20) for an animal rescue. Moose (the dog) was found to have his paw severely pinned in the ornate arms of a bench seat. Rescue 4 was requested for the man vs machine kit and manpower support. To prevent further injury to Moose, Healing Springs Animal Hospital Doctor Heather was called in to sedate the canine. Once calm, Moose's paw was manipulated out of the bench arm after it was discovered there was no impalement. Sedation was reversed and Moose was monitored until function returned. He was then turned back over to a very grateful family. Thank you Doc!!! You are the best!! Stay Safe!

Galax is the place to be while celebrating our nation's 250th Independence Day.

Galax Fire Department’s Duck Race starts at 10am. The Independence Day parade will be at 7pm.

After the parade ends… make your way to Felts Park for one of the biggest events to end your day!

We’ll have LIVE music by Red River Dawn , food trucks, kids activities, and the largest fireworks the City of Galax has ever hosted.

Free admission!

If you skip the parade…. The food will be ready and music playing at the park.

Last night no less than 60 of your Twin County VOLUNTEER firefighters participated in an acquired structure live burn of the old Galax Motel. Firefighters from seven agencies spent several hours working on vertical ventilation, forcible entry, interior attack, and unified command. Thanks to Virginia Department of Fire Programs Division 4 Chief Stanley for stopping by! Thanks to the Galax Fire Department Auxiliary for setting up rehab. Thanks to for providing medical standby and pre-event vitals. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to all of our Mutual Aid partners for taking their Tuesday evening/night!! Stay safe and Train On!
