Galax Fire Department The Galax Fire Department is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The department is comprised of 100% volunteers and has been that way since 1912.

Any questions about the fire department feel free to ask. Galax Fire Department is made up of 52 members. Galax has a fleet made up of 3 Engines, a Tanker, Hosewagon, Heavy Rescue/Engine, BLS Ambulance, A brush truck, RTV, 2 Boats, A 102' Tower. We also have a 1931 Ford A model and a 1959 Mack B-85 Pumper. All of which are housed in 1 station. AKA " THE BIG HOUSE".

Tones set: 11:09pm. Structure Fire. 15 N. Main St in Sparta, NC. Galax Fire was initially tasked with Glade Creek standby, then area standby, running one call to Forest Ridge Rd. After that, the 12 firefighters and 4 trucks were reassigned to the Main St structure fire where members assisted with roof work and suppression. Firefighters staffed the Elkin Fire Department 100' Ascendant to assist with final extinguishment. Absolutely outstanding work by the -AlleghanyVolunteerFireDepartment in holding the fire to the original fire building.and orchestrating seamless work with no less than 15 responding agencies. Always great working with our mutual aid partners!!! Galax Fire cleared at 5:15am. Stay safe!!

Tons set: 1:33pm Structure Fire. 400 block of Birkshire Rd. Arriving units found an outbuilding fully involved within 3 feet of the residence. The homeowner worked hard with a water hose to protect the house. Nice work!! The E2 crew pulled one 1 3/4" line and made quick work of the fire. The residence was checked for extension, which proved negative. Overhaul took an additional 15 mins with an hour of cleanup at the station. All units cleared in 30 mins. Stay safe!

Outstanding day of swiftwater rescue training on the New River today!! 27 Galax Fire members began the day at 8am with a pre-brief, then transitioned to the river. The swiftwater team had planned a day of skills training as they move our water rescue capabilities to the next level. Outstanding effort by all! Our motto of 'Pride in our past...Dedicated ro the future ' was on display as the guys ensured our senior men had a place to observe and critique the operations. Stay safe!!
