🌱 PROPERTY MAINTENANCE REMINDER 🌱

As we enter the summer growing season, the Town of Galena would like to remind all property owners to help keep our community clean, safe, and welcoming by maintaining their properties.

Under Town Code:
βœ”οΈ Grass and weeds in residential areas may not exceed 10 inches in height.
βœ”οΈ Noxious weeds are prohibited.
βœ”οΈ Trash, garbage, junk, brush, and overgrown vegetation should be removed and properly maintained.
βœ”οΈ Fire hydrants must remain visible and unobstructed at all times.

We would also like to remind residents to keep grass clippings out of streets and roadways when mowing. Grass clippings can create a slippery surface that is hazardous for bicyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians. They can also clog storm drains and impact local waterways. Maryland law prohibits placing materials on a roadway that may create a hazard to the traveling public.

Maintaining your property helps:
🏑 Preserve neighborhood appearance
πŸš’ Ensure emergency personnel can quickly locate fire hydrants
🚲 Improve safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians
🌳 Protect local waterways and stormwater infrastructure
🀝 Keep Galena a clean and welcoming community

The Town appreciates everyone's cooperation and the pride residents take in maintaining their homes and properties. Thank you for helping keep Galena beautiful and safe for all!

🚲 A Friendly Safety Reminder 🚲

As the weather gets warmer, we are seeing more children and families out enjoying our streets, sidewalks, and parks. We love seeing our community active and outdoors!

Recently, however, we have observed some unsafe behavior, including riders performing wheelies in roadways, riding without helmets, and operating bicycles and other vehicles in areas where they are not permitted. For everyone's safety, we ask parents and guardians to please speak with their children about safe riding practices.

Please remember:
πŸͺ– Wear a helmet whenever possible.
🚦 Obey traffic laws and be aware of vehicles and pedestrians.
🚫 Do not perform stunts or wheelies in roadways.
🚸 Watch for traffic when crossing streets and intersections.

Additionally, Town Code prohibits the operation of certain vehicles within Town limits and Town parks, including go-carts, minibikes, trikes, and other unlicensed motorized vehicles. Bicycles, go-carts, motorized vehicles, and similar vehicles are also not permitted within Town parks except for bicycles being placed in designated bike rack areas and ADA mobility devices.

Our goal is not to keep anyone from having funβ€”we simply want to ensure everyone can enjoy our community safely and prevent injuries before they happen.

Thank you for helping keep Galena safe for everyone!

⚠️ SCAM ALERT REMINDER ⚠️

Unfortunately, scammers continue to target residents through phone calls, text messages, emails, social media, and even door-to-door solicitations.

Please remember:
πŸ”Ή Never provide personal, banking, or credit card information to someone you do not know or trust.
πŸ”Ή Be cautious of callers claiming to be from a government agency, utility company, law enforcement, or financial institution demanding immediate payment.
πŸ”Ή Do not click suspicious links in emails or text messages.
πŸ”Ή Be wary of requests to pay using gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or payment apps.
πŸ”Ή If something feels urgent, threatening, or too good to be true, take a moment to verify the information independently.

If you receive a suspicious call, message, or email, do not engage. When in doubt, contact the organization directly using a verified phone number or website.

Stay vigilant, look out for your neighbors, and help spread the word to friends and family members who may be more vulnerable to scams.

πŸš›πŸ’§ Community Helping Community! πŸ’§πŸš›

Yesterday, the Town of Galena picked up a surplus donation of 10 pallets of bottled water made available through Federal Surplus of Maryland.

The water was distributed among all Kent County volunteer fire departments (Galena, Betterton, Kennedyville, Millington, Chestertown, Rock Hall), the Kent County Rescue Squad, and Kent County Emergency Services to help support emergency preparedness efforts throughout our county.

A special thank you to Ethan Miller of The 4-M’s Farm (Kennedyville, MD) for his truck, trailer, time, and expertise to travel to Pennsylvania and transport the water back for distribution. We truly appreciate his willingness to step up and help our community and neighboring emergency service organizations.

We would also like to thank the many volunteers and personnel from the fire departments, rescue squad, emergency services, and town employees who assisted with unloading and distributing the water.

This is a great example of what can be accomplished when our community works together. πŸ‘πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
