🚦Traffic Signal Update. 🚦

After several hours of troubleshooting today, including working over the phone with our signal inspector, we believe that tonight after extensive testing while traffic was light we’ve pinpointed two components that were not functioning properly. To restore proper vehicle detection, we isolated those components and rerouted through functioning parts. So, vehicle detection from Bridge Street northbound to Main Street is now working as intended. Drivers may notice a quicker red light cycle, which reflects vehicle detection but is not necessarily operating at 100%. This is a temporary repair, and because some components are carrying additional load, we will monitor the system closely over the coming days.

Shoutout to the U.S. Coast Guard, including their Avionics Electrical Technician school for giving the police department the skills and knowledge to troubleshoot electrical systems, which helped to work through this issue. Our in-house diagnosis hopefully avoided a special call-out and extra cost to the borough. The Galeton Borough and Galeton Borough Police Department remain committed to efficient, effective service. We’ll continue to monitor the signal, but at this time it appears to be running correctly. Thanks for your patience. Semper PARATUS!

🚦 Traffic Signal Update 🚦

The Galeton Borough Police Department would like to provide an update regarding the traffic signal at the intersection of Main Street and Bridge Street.

The signal underwent its annual inspection and preventative maintenance yesterday and successfully passed all required operational testing. Since then, we’ve received comments from several motorists who have noticed a change in the signal timing, particularly when approaching the intersection from Red Light Hill.

We have contacted our traffic signal maintenance contractor to review the current timing and verify that the signal is operating as intended. If any adjustments can be made while remaining compliant with applicable regulations and safety standards, they will be evaluated.

We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while this review is being completed. In the meantime, please continue to drive attentively, obey all traffic control devices, and allow yourself extra time when traveling through the intersection.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe.

Good Afternoon Galeton!! We’re glad to see weather getting nicer and citizens out and about! Spring is upon us which also brings peak mowing season.

Unfortunately, we’ve received complaints of various properties in town. We have also noticed in the past few days over a dozen properties that have blown grass into the road. This is not only dangerous to motorcyclists and other motor vehicles, but is against the law in Pennsylvania. This offense falls under PA Title 75, section 3709 and is punishable by a minimum fine of $300.

We understand that some circumstances make it impossible to not blow some grass on the roadway. We just ask that you be courteous and sweep or blow the grass back onto your property. We do not thrive on punishing or threatening our great citizens, but take pleasure in educating the community! Any questions or concerns please feel free to call the office and leave a message. Although we were unavailable, Pennsylvania State Police Troopers out of the Coudersport PSP Barracks responded quickly, and investigated efficiently to find no direct threat is eminent to the school. The individuals have been identified and CONSEQUENCES will come. The GBPD trusts our school’s administration, Security Officer, and PSP when they confirm everything is ok at the school. Any additional concerns can be addressed to the department or school. Thank you.

Special thank you to the Galeton Parks & Recreation for donating three bicycles to the Galeton school! We found out that some students didn’t have bicycles for the bike parade. We mentioned it to our friends at Parks & Rec and they didn’t hesitate to purchase three bicyles and donate them to the school. The school will keep the bicycles ar the school for any students in need for a ride for future bike parades!
