***Power has been restored as of 7:15.***

We are aware of the outage. CREWS ARE ACTIVELY WORKING TO RESTORE POWER and there is no need to report outages at this point.

Please DO NOT call the Galion, Ohio Police Department with calls related to outages. This allows their lines to be left open for emergency calls.

Thank you for your patience while our amazing line crew works to undo the damage a squirrel has done this early Tuesday morning.

While the Heise Park Pool and Splash Park are both open for the season, please remember to keep an eye on the forecast before leaving home. This week will be hot but showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout. The facilities do not open if the air temperature does not reach at least 71 degrees, or when heavy rain or storms are expected. If storms pass through early enough, the facilities do open.

The maintenance crew is currently working to repair a water line break at N. Market and Hetrick. Water customers in that vicinity may have their service impacted while repairs are made, including reduced pressure and/or a total loss of pressure.

The general vicinity of the affected area will be Fortney to the north, Liberty at Hetrick to the east and 636 N. Market at the south.

Repairs will be made as quickly as possible but please be cautious when in the area and give the crew the space they need to operate safely and efficiently.

Once service is restored, residents may need to let their water run for an extended period to clear air and/or sediment from the line.

Any boil advisories, if necessary, will be put out separately.

The City of Galion, in partnership with Wessler Engineering, will conduct smoke testing throughout the sanitary sewer system beginning on June 10.

Smoke testing is part of a study to reduce rainfall and groundwater from entering the sanitary sewer and serves as an important tool to meet Ohio EPA requirements. It involves blowing liquid smoke into parts of the sanitary sewer system to determine the location of leaks. The smoke used for testing is manufactured specifically for this application and is non-toxic and non-staining. It has an oily odor, but is clean and harmless to pets, food, and material goods.

Door knockers will be circulated in each area prior to beginning the testing. Please note you are NOT required to be home during this process. The project should be completed in approximately six weeks, weather permitting.

If the plumbing in your home is working properly, the smoke used to conduct this test should not enter your home. You may see smoke coming from the vents on the roof, but this indicates a properly working sewer vent. If any smoke is visible inside, it should clear within a few minutes.

An informational video is available on the City of Galion website in order to provide residents with a better understanding of what to expect: https://galion.city/436/Inflow-and-Infiltration-II

Recommendations:
• Run your sink faucets before smoke testing. Smoke often enters through fixtures which are not routinely used (examples: dry P-traps and J-tubes beneath sinks, showers, and floor drains).
• Close toilet lids. This is the best means of preventing smoke from entering your home.
• Open windows and/or doors to allow smoke to clear.

Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) is the process where stormwater and groundwater enter sanitary sewer systems. This overloads the sewer network, leading to expensive treatment costs, increased wear on pumps, and untreated sewage overflows into homes and the environment.
