Last night, crews from both stations were able to get together for some department EMS training. Crews worked with other personnel from other stations to insure consistency within the department as well as interoperability. Another plus to this type of training, personnel are able to learn new techniques and differing ways to accomplish the same goal.

It was a great opportunity to train together and take advantage of the down time between calls for the district. Firefighter / EMT FTO Adam Norcutt conducted the training and did another outstanding job! Gallatin Gateway Fire personnel are truly lifelong learners when it comes to saving lives! And heck, we even got the chief into a medical role!!

Stay safe Gateway.

Congratulations to all of the firefighters from Gallatin Gateway Fire who recently participated in their annual “Pack test” for physical fitness. The test is designed to measure fitness and endurance to effectively perform strenuous fire line duties during wildland fires. The test consists of a 3 mile walk carrying 45 pounds completed under 45 minutes.

Congrats to Sawyer Robinson, Zeke Bussiere, Kyle Poch, Justice Carpenter, Adam Norcutt, Grant Bender, and Captains Heath Anderson and Ray Mines.

As awesome as it may appear, lightning storms pose an obvious and substantial safety risk. A good rule of thumb is if you hear the roar, head indoors. Make sure to seek proper shelter until the storm passes and avoid water when possible. If stuck outside, avoid going next to tall objects, keep your head low/covered and keep your feet close together. Avoid laying down on the ground and cover your ears to reduce noise related injuries from the thunder.

Remember, lightning can reach up to 54,000 degrees, so the last place you want to be is anywhere near a bolt lands.

Stay safe Gateway.
