Number One Fire Department

Number One Fire Department Number One Volunteer Fire Department has been responding to fire, emergency medical and rescue calls protecting our community since 1981.

We are an all volunteer department with professionally trained responders that stand ready at a moments notice. During the fall of 1981 , what would become our service area was declined fire service from the neighboring cities and forced to depend on the fire services of the sumner county fire department , which at that time was too far away form our community to respond quickly during an emergenc

y. A concerned group of neighbors began meeting in the cages bend area and banded together to form the Number One Volunteer Fire Department. Since then, the department has been responding to fire, emergency medical, rescue, and hazarduos materials events, protecting our community 24 hours a day , every day of the year!

Today kicks off the start to National EMS Week! In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized a National EMS Week to celebrate and honor EMS professionals and the life saving work they provide in local communities.

At the Number One Fire Department almost all of our members have an emergency medical license; from Frist Responder to Critical Care Paramedics. And nearly 70% of our emergency calls are for medical or traumatic emergencies. So as a fire department, we are the first ones on the scene take care for the sick and injured.
So a huge thank you to every volunteer Firefighter that goes the extra mile to have medical certifications and care for their community in this national EMS week. We thank you!

Neighbors,

We have made posts on our page previously about shutting doors within your homes at night in case of a fire. Recently, we had a homeowner within our district discover one of their bedrooms was on fire. While calling 911 and evacuating their home, this homeowner took a moment to close the door to the that room. That simple act of shutting the door is a major factor in confining the fire to that room and saving the rest of their home. Once on scene firefighters extinguished the fire quickly.

This is why we always suggest shutting the bedroom doors within your home at night or when sleeping. This easy step can change the outcome of a bad situation.

How do elves eat their pancakes?

In short stacks of course.

Did you know that Number One Fire Department’s Annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser is coming up on May 16, 2026 from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM? We hope to see you there for a great meal and an opportunity to support your local fire department!

Also, did you know that Number One Fire Department trains on the first and third Saturday of every month? Our members are dedicated to staying prepared to serve our community at the highest level.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, we’d love to talk with you about volunteer opportunities at our department. The majority of our calls for service are medical-related, and there is a strong need for trained responders.

If qualified, becoming an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is not only a valuable certification—it equips you with lifesaving skills that can make a real difference when it matters most.

Interested? Reach out to us or stop by during training—we’d be glad to meet you.
