Over the past two weeks, the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office taught a Basic Police Motorcycle Officer Course for officers from Hamilton County, Williamson County, Lebanon Police Department, Franklin Police Department, Gallatin Police Department, and the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office.

Through rigorous training and countless hours on the motorcycle, these officers successfully earned their motor wings. Congratulations to all of the graduates, especially our own Deputy Petty, on this outstanding achievement.

We wish all of these riders safe travels and safe riding as they return to serving their communities.

Sheriff Eric Craddock officially welcomed the newest member of the Sumner County Sheriff's Office family: K9 River.

River is an Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) canine, donated by Defenders For Children, and is specially trained to locate hidden electronic storage devices that may contain evidence in child exploitation investigations.

Partnered with Deputy Reaber, River has already assisted investigators in multiple cases by locating devices that might otherwise have gone undiscovered.

During the press conference, River demonstrated her impressive detection abilities, showing why ESD canines are such valuable assets in protecting children and supporting investigations.

Thank you to Defenders For Children for making this partnership possible.
Welcome to the team, River! 🐾

“On average, she finds two devices that law enforcement miss,” Deputy Reaber explained. “And that's not at fault to law enforcement, it’s just things are hidden… very well, and she has a great nose, and she's able to sniff those things out.”

Today, the Department honors Detective Lynn Hicks on the anniversary of his End of Watch — May 22, 1999.

Detective Lynn Hicks dedicated his life to serving and protecting the citizens of Goodlettsville with courage, honor, and commitment. Though 27 years have passed, his sacrifice and legacy are never forgotten. We continue to keep his family, friends, and brothers and sisters in blue in our thoughts today.

Everyone is invited to attend a memorial service in his honor next Wednesday at 10:00 AM. We will meet at 105 S. Main Street in the front lawn, at the Goodlettsville Police Department Memorial, as we come together to remember Detective Hicks and pay tribute to his service and sacrifice.

Gone, but never forgotten.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to recognize the graduates of our Broken Princess Program. This program was developed by one of our own officers, Gidget Troutt. It focuses on trauma navigation, understanding pain, promoting healing, and developing healthy coping techniques.

These women have worked hard to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and to take meaningful steps toward healing and personal growth. We are proud of their dedication, strength, and accomplishments.

Great work by Assistant District Attorneys Eli Freeman and Leticia Alexander, along with Deputy Jody McCutchen and Detective John Compton of the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, helped secure the conviction of Kippy Lee Lynch following a 3-day jury trial in Sumner County Criminal Court. Lynch was found guilty of multiple charges including Aggravated Burglary, Burglary, Theft, DUI, and drug offenses stemming from a 2023 Hendersonville burglary investigation. He remains incarcerated and faces up to 27 years in prison at sentencing.

MAN CONVICTED OF AGGRAVATED BURGLARY AND OTHER CHARGES

Wednesday, following a 3-day jury trial in Sumner County Criminal Court, Assistant District Attorneys Eli Freeman and Leticia Alexander secured convictions for Aggravated Burglary, Burglary, Theft, Attempt to Commit Burglary, DUI, and Simple Possession of Co***ne against Kippy Lee Lynch (51) of Bryson City, NC.

During the trial, Generals Freeman and Alexander proved that beginning late on the night of January 13, 2023, and into the early morning hours of January 14, 2023, Lynch and his co-defendant got high on co***ne and entered a home in the Island Brook subdivision of Hendersonville while the owner was inside asleep. Once inside, Lynch and his co-defendant filled several backpacks full of valuable property from the victim's garage and took a handgun from inside the victim's vehicle. As Lynch and his co-defendant tried to escape on foot with the stolen property back to their vehicle, which had been parked outside of the subdivision to avoid detection, several items of stolen property were left on the ground and later located by law enforcement. One of those items was a backpack containing a significant amount of the victim's property as well as a Bible inscribed with Lynch's name. Lynch was located and arrested later on the morning of the 14th by Dep. Jody McCutchen and Det. John Compton of the Sumner County Sheriff's Office, where he was found at the wheel of a vehicle about to turn on to New Shackle Island Road under the influence of co***ne, methamphetamine, ma*****na, and va**um.

Lynch has been in jail since his arrest and faces up to 27 years in prison. He will be sentenced by Criminal Court Judge Dee David Gay on August 7th. We are grateful for the cooperation of the victim in this case, the investigatory work of the Sumner County Sheriff's Office, as well as the assistance in processing forensic evidence by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. We also wish to recognize Victim Witness Coordinator Sally Ann Pirtle for her never-ending hard work in assisting the prosecutors and the victim throughout this case.
