On September 1, 2026, at approximately 6:11 p.m., Gallup Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of East Highway 66 and Superman Canyon Road following reports of an intoxicated male in a purple semi-truck who was believed to be stuck beneath the bridge. Callers also reported a physical altercation involving two individuals prior to officers’ arrival. A previous incident involving the same vehicle occurred earlier in the residential area of Lewann Drive.

Officer Watchman located the semi‑truck and contacted the driver, identified as Elias Ashley (50 YOA). Ashley displayed signs of intoxication and had an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on the warrant as well as Driving While Intoxicated. A booking photograph was not available at the time of this release.

On September 1, 2026, at approximately 6:55 a.m., the Gallup Police Department conducted a routine patrol in the area of the Bank of America located at 1006 West Aztec Avenue. This location has been the subject of numerous citizen complaints regarding nuisance activity and suspected drug use in the surrounding lots.

During the patrol, Officer Gemme observed four individuals in the area and noted one male, later identified as Roland Long, seated on the west side of the closed business. Upon noticing the police unit, Long abruptly stood and began walking away. Officer Gemme made contact with Long and observed that he was holding a piece of burnt aluminum foil, which—based on training and experience—is commonly used in the consumption of illicit narcotics.

Long provided the foil upon request. A burnt blue pill, circular in shape and marked with “30,” was visible on the foil. Officer Gemme suspected the pill to be fentanyl. Long was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked into McKinley County Adult Detention Center without further incident.

On August 31, 2026, at approximately 9:38 p.m., the Gallup Police Department responded to a report of a possible vehicle collision at the McDonald’s located at 2300 East Highway 66. Callers advised that a vehicle in the parking lot appeared to have struck an object and that the vehicle's front end was heavily damaged.

Officer Gemme arrived on scene and made contact with the driver, identified as Rochelle Yazzie. During the investigation, Officer Gemme observed a small plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance on the vehicle’s floorboard. With the driver’s consent, the officer examined the item and conducted a field test, which presumptively indicated the substance was co***ne. The substance weighed 1.9 grams.

Ms. Yazzie stated she purchased the powder from a retail supplement store and claimed she used it in her drinks under a different name. Based on the field test results, Officer Gemme placed Ms. Yazzie under arrest for possession of a controlled substance (co***ne).

On September 1, 2026 Ms. Owens was last seen at about 6:15 PM on Hazel Drive in Gallup New Mexico. Ms. Owens was last seen wearing black sweatpants, black T-shirt and a black long cardigan. Ms. Owens left on foot and could possibly be in the Redhills trailer park area.

On August 31, 2026, at approximately 10:31 a.m., the Gallup Police Department responded to a single-vehicle collision at the 17-mile marker on I-40 westbound. We urge the public to anticipate traffic delays, as the interstate is restricted to one lane until the semi-truck can be removed from the roadway. This remains an ongoing investigation. We ask that drivers seek alternative routes where possible and exercise caution by slowing down in the area.

On August 29, 2026, Officer Gemme of the Gallup Police Department was conducting a routine patrol of the Munoz Overpass bridge, specifically addressing instances of trespassing.

During this patrol, Officer Gemme encountered Mr. Isaac Garcia and initiated an arrest for trespassing. Mr. Garcia subsequently attempted to flee, dropping a black bag in the process, and resisted apprehension. A physical altercation ensued, during which Officer Gemme received assistance from a civilian to restrain Mr. Garcia. Following his arrest, the dropped bag was recovered. A .22 caliber rifle was found attached to the exterior of the bag, and it was determined to be loaded.

Additionally, a separate pouch on Mr. Garcia's bicycle was seized pending a serch warrant and a search of Garcias person incident to arrest revealied drug paraphernalia, specifically a glass bubble pipe with residue. Mr. Garcia was subsequently charged with Battery upon a peace officer, Resisting, evading or obstructing an officer (fleeing, evading or attempting to evade), Criminal trespass (private lands, without written permission), and Drug paraphernalia (possession).

Good job Officer Gemme !!

Update:

A search warrant was obtained and executed by Officer Gemme. During the search, he located US currency, 5.4 grams of a glass-like substance that presumptively tested positive for methamphetamine, and approximately 8 blue pills presumed to be fentanyl.

As a result, the suspect Garcia has been charged with two felonies: possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

UPDATE: Today August 31, 2026 Officer Gemme was contacted by a citizen who identified the bike in the case as stolen after seeing it on our page. Our very grateful citizen will retrieve his stolen bike which Officer Gemme recovered when he arrested Garcia over the weekend. Again, awesome job by our officer!

On August 26, 2026, at approximately 9:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to the McDonald’s at 2300 East Highway 66 for a welfare check regarding a highly intoxicated male in a silver Ford Explorer. Officer Natasha Gene and Public Service Officer (PSO) Alejandro Huazano made contact with the passenger of the vehicle.

During the investigation, PSO Huazano observed another intoxicated male nearby. Upon assessment, PSO Huazano determined the male was unable to care for himself. While Officer Gene and PSO Huazano were escorting the individual—later identified as Gerrick Mariano—to the PSO van, Mariano attempted to flee. After officers restrained him, Mariano stated that he had a firearm in the small of his back. Officers recovered the weapon, which was confirmed to be stolen.

Mariano was arrested and transported to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center on the following charges:

Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm) - Felony
Resisting, Evading, or Obstructing an Officer
Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon (Under the Influence)
Unlawful Carrying of a Deadly Weapon

On August 28, 2026, Chief of Police Erin Toadlena-Pablo of the Gallup Police Department presided over the swearing-in ceremony for the newly promoted Sergeant Alana Bradley.

Sergeant Bradley has dedicated 14 years of service to our department and holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from New Mexico State University. She successfully completed the rigorous examination process to assume the role of our sole female patrol sergeant in 2026. Her comprehensive experience encompasses narcotics investigations and criminal investigations. Additionally, she is the department's exclusive certified child seat inspector and trainer through NHTSA, and she also serves as a Field Training Officer. Sergeant Bradley was recognized as Officer of the Year in both 2025 and 2026, and her family and friends joined us in celebrating this morning.

Congratulations, Sergeant Bradley, on this well-deserved achievement.
