Galt is NOT Sacramento and it shouldn't be subject to the same guidelines and mandates that large cities are. Read more on how I believe Galt's leadership should stand up for Galt's unique needs as a small fish in a large pond:
Balancing state versus local control has become an important issue that our city council needs to take seriously. Mandates from the Governor's office often cost more for us smaller municipalities and are more often than not unrealistic. State guidelines tend to address issues related to larger cities, often without considering the effects that those decisions have on small towns like Galt. It then is the responsibility of local elected officials and city staff to navigate the muddy waters and help mitigate the negative effects.
It is imperative that city officials maintain close relationships with their state counterparts to receive help and guidance when it is needed and advocate for the city’s unique needs before mandates are finalized by the State. Over the last 20 years, I have cultivated these relationships through my time as a reporter and as a board member of the Galt Chamber of Commerce.
As a member of the Galt City Council, I will hit the ground running to bring Galt's unique needs to center stage for our County, State, and Federal representatives, and advocate for Galt on regional committees, such as the Sacramento Homeless Policy Council, Sacramento Metro Air Quality Management, and the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) .
