Galveston County students are heading back to school this week, let’s all do our part to keep them safe.

Every trip to school should begin and end safely. That means slowing down in school zones, obeying school bus laws, putting your phone away, and staying alert behind the wheel. A few extra seconds of patience can save a life.

Galveston County law enforcement is united in one message: Drive safely. Stay attentive. Protect our kids.

Together, we can make this school year a safe one for every student, every bus driver, every crossing guard, and every family.

This week, our seniors enjoyed a fantastic Senior Wellness Fair hosted by the UTMB occupational therapy students.

Throughout the semester, the students have been learning about healthy aging, and they shared what they learned through engaging wellness booths. The students brought thoughtful activities and resources, and our seniors walked away with helpful tips to support balance, brain health, safety, nutrition, and more. It was a great day of intergenerational connection, our seniors took away helpful tips to support healthy aging, while the students gained valuable life skills and real-world experience they can carry into their future careers.

Thank you to the UTMB students for a meaningful day of learning and community!

Galveston County Mosquito Control has begun their late summer County-Wide larvicide project. They have two surveillance teams putting out larvicide pellets in the ditches and low-lying areas.

Although the trucks sound like their regular spray trucks, they are not spraying out pesticide into the air. Each team consists of a driver and one employee who is shooting small pellets out of the window into ditches and low-lying areas. This is a pre-treatment for mosquito larva. They normally do this in the spring and late summer. This will not affect bees, animals, pets, or humans.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Jack Brooks Park for our Ribbon Cutting & Bone Breaking Ceremony to celebrate the opening of Galveston County's first-ever dog park!

This is an exciting addition to our park system for our constituents and their four-legged family members. A special thank you to the Galveston County Animal Resource Center, the GCSO K-9 Unit, and Animal Alliance for coming out to show their support and bringing along their furry friends. We also extend our appreciation to our Commissioners Court, County leadership, Parks staff, and everyone who helped make this project possible.

Check out some of our favorite moments from the celebration, and we hope to see you and your pup at Remi's Run soon!
