Commissioners Court approved a historic partnership this morning between Galveston County and College of the Mainland(COM) to establish and operate the new Galveston County Law Enforcement Academy. The Galveston County Sheriff's Office(GCSO) will partner with COM to lead the academy and provide instruction.

This is a TCOLE-licensed academy housed at COM’s state-of-the-art Public Safety Careers facility. Instruction will be provided by experts from across the law enforcement community, including agencies throughout Galveston County, giving cadets expert-level instruction and valuable real-world experience.

Students will graduate with college credit and their Texas Peace Officer License, preparing them to serve our communities from day one.

This is a great partnership between COM and the GCSO and will be a tremendous benefit to law enforcement agencies across Galveston County. It will strengthen our local law enforcement workforce and help prepare the next generation of peace officers to serve our communities.

GALVESTON COUNTY VETERANS - GIVE VETS A SMILE!

Galveston County Veterans Services is proud to partner with UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry to offer 30 local veterans the opportunity to participate in the Give Vets A Smile event on Friday, November 6, 2026.

Participating veterans may receive FREE dental assessments and treatment based on their individual needs, which may include cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, preventive care, and more.

-Space is limited to only 30 veterans and advance registration is required.
-Required forms must be completed and returned by October 1, 2026.
-Veterans are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.

Congratulations to Galveston County Sheriff's Office Deputy D. Fillmore on receiving the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Enforcement Hero Award! This is a well-deserved honor.

Since launching an initiative in June, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and all four Constable Offices have worked together to crack down on drunk driving and make our roads safer. Deputy Fillmore has played an important role through arrests, investigations, and enforcement on our roadways.

The message is clear: If you drink and drive in Galveston County, you will be stopped and you will be arrested.

Thank you to all the veterans who attended and to our presenters from the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, SSG Fox Gulf Coast Team, Galveston County Veteran Services Office, Galveston County Veterans Treatment Court, and all our partners who joined us.

This was a great opportunity for our veterans to learn more about the resources and benefits available throughout Galveston County.
