Thank you to the Greater Galway Community, our friends, neighbors, and everyone who came out in support of this year’s Memorial Day Parade. Your presence helped make the day truly meaningful as we gathered together to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is a time of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we cherish every day. We are humbled by the support shown throughout our community and proud to stand together in their memory.

We hope everyone had a safe, reflective, and memorable Memorial Day weekend.

Galway's Memorial Day Parade will be delayed 1 hour due to weather. Roads will close at 1000. Kick off will be at 1100.

Today we had nearly 50 people, including 24 students from the Galway CSD come out to help our Legion Post place flags on the graves of nearly 400 Galway Veterans.

Words cannot express how appreciative we are of your support. Thank you to Mr. Miller, Mr. Ratti-Robinson and all the teachers, faculty, and administrators who showed up today. Thank you our fellow Veterans, and to the members of our local Boy Scout troop, Sports teams, Galway High Drama, NJHS, Galway FFA, and Galway Players Community Theater.

Additionally, thank you to The Galway Local and Stewart’s for providing our volunteers with ice cream.

You made today incredibly special.

We look forward to seeing you Monday for the Parade. 🇺🇸

Volunteers needed!

Sacandaga Post 1461 is seeking volunteers to help place flags at the Galway Village Cemetery on Saturday, May 23, 2025, beginning at 09:00 a.m. for the upcoming Memorial Day Parade.

All are welcome to participate and those interested are asked to meet at the Galway Village Cemetery entrance.

Post Commander Gregory Johnson will be onsite to help place the flags, coordinate the volunteer efforts, provide instructions, and pass out supplies.

Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to help Galway prepare for this upcoming day of remembrance. Students seeking community service hours are encouraged to participate.

Folks, we lost another irreplaceable soul through the loss of Don Hersey. He exemplified friendship, kindness and leadership whenever he was called upon. His neighbors and friends alike easily spoke his praises as a kind and generous man. We may mourn his loss, but God has received a United States Marine (Guardian Angel) to man the gates of heaven.
