Photo: One of more than 150 veterans in St. John’s, Compass Cemetery, Byron P. Soders (11/9/1879-4/4/1945) fought in the Spanish American War in 1898 as a Private in Co. L, 4th Regiment Infantry Pennsylvania Volunteers.

Within the cemetery, graves of veterans of the two World Wars are well represented, as are Vietnam and Korea, the U.S. Civil War, the American Revolution, and the War of 1812. There are also graves of veterans of the Whiskey Rebellion, the Philippines Insurrection, and even the French and Indian War. Many thanks to Margaret Tamboer for her gracious permission to post this picture of her ancestor. Many thanks as well to Alfred Brown of the West Caln Historical Commission for his continuing and tireless historical research on our many veterans
