This weekend, members of Garden City Fire-Rescue had the opportunity to assist with fire and EMS coverage for the Rock the Country Music Festival in Bloomingdale.

We would like to sincerely thank the Town of Bloomingdale and the Bloomingdale Fire Department for allowing our personnel to be a part of such a great event. Our members were proud to help provide coverage for the thousands of festival goers and performances from artists including Miranda Lambert, Kid Rock, Treaty Oak Revival, Jelly Roll, and many more.

We truly appreciate the trust and partnership shown to us throughout the event and look forward to assisting again in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to serve alongside your department and help keep the event safe for everyone involved.

Today, we remember those who never had the chance to come home.

This Memorial Day, Garden City Fire-Rescue honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their courage was not measured in words, but in the lives they protected and the freedoms they defended. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we live with each day, and their memory will never be forgotten.

As flags fly, families gather, and communities come together, we pause to reflect on the true meaning of this day. While many spend today surrounded by loved ones, we also remember the families who carry the weight of loss every day.

May we never lose sight of the cost of freedom. May we always honor the fallen. We honor them. We remember them. We thank them.

Garden City Fire-Rescue is proud to recognize Lieutenant Banks as our Firefighter of the Quarter.

Lieutenant Banks has a tremendous impact on the development of our new firefighters. Throughout their probationary period, he works hard to create a welcoming and encouraging environment where they can grow, learn, and succeed. He takes pride in teaching the values and culture of our department while setting the standard through his own actions and leadership.

He consistently emphasizes accountability, professionalism, and taking pride in the job. Through his mentorship and dedication, Lieutenant Banks continues to make a positive difference not only in the lives of our new hires, but across the entire department.

Congratulations, Lieutenant Banks, and thank you for your continued commitment to Garden City Fire-Rescue.

Due to the recent increase in wildfires in our area, Garden City Fire-Rescue is proud to announce that our community will be implementing the NFPA Firewise USA® Program.

The Firewise USA® Program, developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), helps communities work together to reduce the risk of wildfire damage to homes, property, and natural areas. Through education, preparedness, and community involvement, the program encourages residents to take proactive steps to create safer, more resilient neighborhoods.

As part of this initiative, Garden City Fire-Rescue will be working with residents to provide information on:

• Creating defensible space around homes
• Reducing combustible vegetation and debris
• Improving emergency access for responders
• Home hardening techniques to reduce fire spread
• Community-wide wildfire preparedness efforts

With wildfire activity increasing across our region, it is more important than ever for our community to be prepared. The Firewise USA® Program is designed to help residents understand wildfire risks and take simple but effective actions to better protect their homes and families.

More information about upcoming meetings, educational opportunities, and community participation opportunities will be shared soon.

Together, we can make Garden City safer and more fire resilient.

As some may already know, each year Garden City Fire-Rescue sends two members to Norfolk, Virginia to attend the Robert E. Rumens Hampton Roads Marine Firefighting School to further their knowledge and training in shipboard firefighting operations.

This past week, two of our members successfully completed the week-long course, gaining valuable hands-on experience and specialized training in marine firefighting tactics, vessel operations, and emergency response in a shipboard environment.

We are proud of their hard work and commitment to continuing education and professional development. The knowledge and skills they bring back help strengthen our department’s capabilities and better prepare us to serve our community and surrounding port areas.

Congratulations to both members on successfully completing the program.

This afternoon, Garden City Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to the area of Jasper Drive following reports of a vehicle fire threatening a nearby structure.

Engine 201 arrived on scene within 3 minutes and 7 seconds of dispatch and found a vehicle fully involved in flames with fire conditions posing a potential exposure threat to the nearby residence. Crews quickly deployed a handline and initiated an aggressive fire attack within 37 seconds of arrival to contain the fire and prevent further extension.

Additional personnel from Engine 202 and Truck 202 arrived shortly after to assist with overhaul and water supply operations to ensure all remaining hot spots were fully extinguished.

Thanks to the quick actions of responding crews, the fire was brought under control rapidly and damage was limited to the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Great job by all personnel involved.

This side-by-side, while simple in appearance, plays a major role in Garden City Fire-Rescue’s wildfire response capabilities. Equipped with a 50-gallon water tank, high-pressure hose reel, foam suppression capabilities, and various hand tools and saws, this unit allows crews to quickly access areas larger apparatus cannot safely reach.

During our deployment to the Brantley Highway 82 Fire, this unit proved to be a vital asset in assisting with fire suppression, mobility in rough terrain, and protecting threatened areas. Its versatility and maneuverability allowed crews to operate effectively in conditions where every second mattered.

Wildland firefighting often requires adaptability, and this unit is another example of the equipment and preparation that helps our personnel get the job done safely and efficiently.

The Garden City Fire-Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office would like to announce that the recent burn ban has officially been lifted. Outdoor burning is now permitted; however, residents are encouraged to continue using caution and safe burning practices at all times.

Before conducting any outdoor burning, please remember:

• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep a garden hose, water source, or fire extinguisher nearby
• Do not burn during windy conditions
• Clear surrounding vegetation and combustible materials from the area
• Only burn approved natural vegetation. Do not burn trash, tires, construction debris, or hazardous materials
• Fully extinguish all fires before leaving the area

Even with the burn ban lifted, conditions can still allow fires to spread quickly if not properly controlled. We ask everyone to remain responsible and mindful to help protect our community and surrounding properties.

If a fire begins to spread or becomes uncontrollable, call 911 immediately.
