On August 18th, 2026, the City Commission waived Section 62-12 to the Code of Ordinance to allow a single artillery to be shot after any touchdown scored by GCHS.

We want to make our community aware of the new tradition taking place during all home high school football games for this season, beginning September 11th.

The sound will be very loud and may be unexpected for nearby residents, businesses, and others in the surrounding area.

We are sharing this notice in advance so our community knows what to expect and can prepare accordingly on home game nights.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to cheering on our home team! Go Buffs! 🦬🏈

El 18 de agosto de 2026, la Comisión Municipal aprobó una excepción a la Sección 62-12 del Código de Ordenanzas para permitir el disparo de una pieza de artillería tras cada *touchdown* anotado por GCHS.

Queremos informar a nuestra comunidad sobre la nueva tradición que tendrá lugar durante todos los partidos de fútbol americano de la escuela secundaria en casa esta temporada, a partir del 11 de septiembre.

GCFD is conducting a controlled burn at the Kiddie Pond. Periodic visible flames and heavy smoke may be present.

Please be cautious if you are traveling in the area of South US Highway 83 near the riverbed.

The Kiddie Pond will be closed for the duration of the burn. If you have any questions, please contact the Parks Department at 620-271-1574.
