🎉 On September 4, Russell Elementary School held its first Spirit Assembly of the year and honored El Grito in celebration of Mexican Independence Day!

A beloved Russell tradition brought to the school by Maestra Gil, the celebration featured beautiful folklórico performances and Russell teachers coming together to lead students in El Grito. 💃🏽🎶

This year’s celebration held special meaning as the Russell community also marked the one-year anniversary of Maestra Gil’s passing. In honor of her lasting impact, the school dedicated a new bench and tree just outside the classroom where she taught. 🌳❤️

Maestra Gil’s passion for empowering Garden Grove Unified students as learners and leaders continues to inspire the Russell community. Her dedication, spirit, and love for students remain an enduring part of the school’s story and a legacy that will continue to grow for years to come. 💚🐾
