POWER OUTAGE & ROAD CLOSURE – PUBLIC NOTICE

Power is out in portions of the Divide this morning. Garden Valley Fire Protection District and Georgetown Fire Protection District are currently on scene of a vehicle collision involving powerlines on Greenwood Road.

Greenwood Road is completely blocked between Marshall Road and Highway 193. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route until crews can clear the roadway and PG&E can address the damaged lines.

Updates will be provided as soon as the scene is made safe and the road is reopened.

Currently, there is no estimated timeline when the roadway will be open.

🚧 4th of July Parade Road Closure Reminder 🚧

We would like to remind residents and visitors that portions of Marshall Road, Garden Valley Road, and Greenwood Road will be temporarily closed from approximately 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, July 4th to accommodate the annual Garden Valley 4th of July Parade.

If you plan to travel through the area during this time, please allow for extra travel time or consider using an alternate route.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we celebrate this longstanding community tradition. Thank you for helping us make this a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.

The CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit plans to conduct a prescribed burn at Bacchi Ranch near Coloma on Thursday, July 2, from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Smoke will be visible in the area.

Update (Thursday at 3:15): Burning is complete, with 72 acres treated.

Update (Thursday at 10:30 am): The prescribed burn has begun. All resources are in place.

The CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit will be conducting a prescribed burn at the Bacchi Ranch on the Georgetown Divide Vegetation Management Project (VMP) on Thursday, July 2, from approximately 9 am to 3 pm.

Dependent on any restrictions set forth by the El Dorado County Air Quality Management District and favorable fire weather conditions, the burn will take place in El Dorado County near the town of Coloma. The objective is to burn approximately 100 acres of grass and oak woodland within the VMP boundary to continue reducing fuel in the fuel break and to increase fire protection for surrounding communities. Smoke will be visible from the surrounding communities.

Garden Valley Fire Protection District, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, El Dorado County Fire Protection District, and U.S. Forest Service - Eldorado National Forest will be assisting with the project.

All CAL FIRE prescribed burns are evaluated hourly on the day of the burn, utilizing a Go/No Go checklist that is based on weather, resource availability, and incident activity. If burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, controlled burn, operations will be immediately stopped.

Today units responded to a vegetation fire on Johntown Creek Road that burned approximately 1/4 acre before firefighters quickly stopped its spread.

As we move into fire season, this incident serves as a good reminder that it doesn’t take much for a small fire to become a larger problem. While burn pile season is winding down, residents should use extra caution with any outdoor burning activities and always follow local burn regulations.

A few simple steps can make a big difference:

🔥 Clear vegetation and combustible materials around burn piles.

🔥 Never leave a burn pile unattended.

🔥 Have a water source and hand tools readily available.

🔥 Avoid burning on windy or hot days.

🔥 Ensure piles are completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving the area.

The Garden Valley Fire Protection District encourages everyone to practice Ready, Set, Go! principles by creating defensible space around homes, preparing evacuation plans, and staying aware of changing fire conditions throughout the summer.

Garden Valley Fire Protection District is proud to be part of the annual Garden Valley 4th of July Parade and Celebration.

Interested in participating in the parade? We encourage individuals, families, businesses, and community groups to join the fun and be part of this year's celebration. Parade participants must check in no later than 9:00 AM on July 4th, with the parade beginning promptly at 10:00 AM.

Following the parade, there will be a variety of community activities, including:
• Arts and crafts vendors
• Food booths
• Live music on the Garden Valley Park stage
• Family-friendly community activities

We encourage everyone to come out, celebrate our nation's independence, and enjoy a day of community spirit and family friendly fun.
