Huge thank you to the Gardendale Civitan for hosting our Gardendale Crossing Guards breakfast this morning!

We are incredibly appreciative of our crossing guards and the job they do each and every school day keeping our students safe with a smile and caring heart. Rain, cold, or heat — they are out there making a difference for our kids and community.

As another school year comes to a close, we want to wish all of our crossing guards a safe and relaxing summer. Thank you for your dedication, early mornings, and commitment throughout the year. Enjoy the break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back next school year!

⚠️UPDATED Severe Weather Forecast Update for Wednesday Night through Early Thursday Morning as of 1:55pm Tuesday:

🚨Level 3 of 5 Risk is now in the forecast for locations roughly along the I-20/59 corridor. The Enhanced Risk was included for an increased chance for tornadoes, along with large hail and damaging winds. A level 1 to 2 out of 5 risk remains elsewhere across Central Alabama.

OVERNIGHT EVENT: We're expecting the chance for severe storms to begin as early as 6pm, with multiple rounds of storms moving from west to east through the overnight hours as a cold front slowly moves south across the area. Have your severe weather plan ready, and have multiple ways to recieve warnings - most importantly have something that can wake you up such as a NOAA Weather Radio, smartphone app, and make sure Wireless Emergency Alerts are ON. We'll keep you updated with the latest!

At first glance, it looks like a dance routine. But the smooth steps and quick footwork aren’t happening on a stage. They’re unfolding in the middle of a school car line at Gardendale Elementary, where crossing guard Ronad Mitchell has turned a daily routine into something unexpected.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On April 10, 2026 at approximately 9:03am, an elderly female entered Region’s Bank and presented a note demanding money. After receiving the currency, the female immediately came to the Gardendale Police Department and voluntarily surrendered the money.

Based on the investigation at this time, it appears the female acted alone.

There is no ongoing threat to the public. The individual’s caregiver has been notified, and the situation is being handled appropriately.
Charges are pending review as the investigation continues.

If additional information becomes available, the Gardendale Police Department will provide updates as soon as possible.
