2026 Peregrine Watch Update: Temporary Climbing Restrictions Lifted

With the Trapps peregrines settling into a quiet stretch this season, our team has confirmed that breeding attempts were unsuccessful this spring. Our observations suggest that no additional breeding is expected in the Trapps this season. The good news is that our Conservation Science staff and Peregrine Watch volunteers are still observing activity at the Bonticou and Millbrook cliffs, where monitoring will continue.

As a result, temporary climbing restrictions in the Trapps will be lifted on Wednesday, May 13.

Thank you to our Conservation Science staff, Peregrine Watch volunteers, and the climbing community for supporting the protection of these remarkable falcons. What does spring bring? The first warm breeze on the Shawangunk Ridge brings a sense of awakening. Sunlight spills across the cliffs, the forests wake in a slow unfurling, and every trail seems to hum with that quiet promise of renewal.

If you’re feeling that pull toward fresh air and fresh energy, let the Ridge be your reset button. Plan your visit at mohonkpreserve.org and step into your own spring rejuvenation! 🌿✨

Last Saturday, Rock The Ridge 2026 hit the trails!

More than 600 Ridge Rockers showed up strong, running with purpose and heart while raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support Mohonk Preserve.

Even more inspiring, women took first place in both the 50-Mile and Marathon distances 🏃‍♀️

We are beyond grateful to every runner, volunteer, sponsor, staff member and supporter who made this 13th year so special.

Our hearts are full 💚

Rock The Ridge 2026 is history!

And what a day it was! Women ruled by placing first in both the 50-Mile and Marathon distances! 🏃‍♀️

Thank you to those who participated in the 13th running of Rock The Ridge. We couldn't do this without all of you, and we appreciate your enthusiasm, energy, and love for this very special place that we protect and preserve every day of the year. With your help, the event grossed $400,000!

Our hearts are truly full. Seeing so many people running with purpose - for family, for the land, for personal reasons, for something bigger. It means everything.

A massive THANK YOU 💚 not only to you, our Ridge Rockers but to everyone that showed up for the Preserve - our volunteers, staff, sponsors, community and for everyone that helped make this event so special.

🌲 May the forest be with you! This May 4th, we’re celebrating the forests of the Shawangunk Ridge and the people who stand up for them.

Forests don’t have a publicist, so we’re asking you to speak up for them today with a donation to Mohonk Preserve. Trees don’t send alerts when stressed or go on strike when invasives arrive. They simply keep doing the quiet work that sustains us all: cleaning the air and water, holding soil in place, cooling the planet, and offering places to explore and recharge. Right now, they need you to keep going.

Join us this Saturday, May 2nd from 3-5pm for the Artist Reception of "The Ridge and More" by Maureen Rogers!

"My art consists of watercolors and graphite work. With watercolor I want to capture the color and light of what is around me. With graphite I want to capture this complex world with a simple yet powerful tool, a pencil...

This is my home. A lot of my life is caught in the scenes I paint. The landscape holds many memories. The best way to see and enjoy what I love is to paint it."

The show will be on display for the month of May. Stop by the Mohonk Preserve Visitor Center Gallery, located at 3197 State Rte 44/55, Gardiner, NY 12525 and enjoy the view!

Celebrating Arbor Day on the Ridge! 🌳

Today was all about growth and stewardship at Mohonk Preserve.

Staff members from Stewardship, Conservation and Visitor Experience joined by Meadow Guardian (Invasive Plant Strike Team) volunteers led by Jeremy Sabol, Coordinator of Field Operations and certified arborist spent the day out on the land and planted a large, native Sweet Gum tree and 40 native shrubs at the Testimonial Gateway to celebrate Arbor Day. Thirty five of the saplings planted were purchased through the NYS DEC Sapling program. The plantings will be registered on the state's website for their 25 million Trees by 2033.

Native plants were: Highbush Blueberry, Native Rhododendron, Winterberry and Witch Hazel. The saplings purchased from the DEC were donated to the Preserve.

The Arbor Day planting was part of Mohonk Preserve's special programs to celebrate Earth Week.

This was a team effort to care for the "lungs" of the Shawangunk Ridge. Trees do so much for us, protecting our watershed, providing homes for wildlife, and giving us all a beautiful place to hike and recharge.

A massive thank you 🙏 to everyone who came out to help! Your sweat and spirit are what make this community and this landscape so special.

Take a look at some of the action from today!
