2nd alarm 45 Graham St.

Mutual aid to the scene: Ashburnham, Hubbardston, Templeton, Westminster, Winchendon, Athol, Fitchburg and Leominster.
Devens, Rutland and Sterling covered Gardner HQ.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire on the second floor, extending to the third and attic.

Crews made an aggressive interior attack to knock down the fire in the upper stories.

Flying embers started a small fire between two garages on Vernon St. that was quickly handled.

Cover companies responded to several calls , including a small brush fire at Pearly Brook Reservoir.

All companies cleared the scene at 17:12 hours.

Only a few days left, open burning season ends May 1st.

Reminder: The open burning season begins tomorrow, lasting through May 1. Permits can be obtained at no cost via the following link: https://gardner.burnpermits.com/.

Burning Permitted only between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m

The fire shall be supervised at all times, AND AT LEAST 75 FEET AWAY FROM ANY STRUCTURE.

Applicant shall have sufficient men and equipment to control the fire. The fire shall be extinguished completely before attendant leaves. The person holding the permit is liable for any damage caused.

No Rubbish
Burning restricted to tree branches, brush and garden debris. Burning will be restricted to garden debris and small piles of tree trimmings in cleared areas only.

Fire Department permission is needed for each day. The Fire Department reserves the right to cancel burning on any day if a change of wind or any dangerous condition creates a fire hazard. If a smoke nuisance is caused by such burning, your permit will be revoked.

Fire starters must be of a smoke minimizing type

Rubber Tires are Not Permitted
REGULATORY AUTHORITY: M.G.L. c 48 s 13. Violation punished by a fine of not more than $500 plus the cost of suppression or by imprisonment for not more than one month or both.

Within two days this week, Falmouth Fire/Rescue and Holyoke Fire Department both responded to house fires that started with the lithium-ion batteries from e-bikes. Yesterday, Engine 2, Rescue 1, and C1 responded to a mutual aid request in Templeton, where a tractor trailer had overturned, trapping the driver. Firefighters extricated the driver, who was transported to a local hospital by Templeton Fire.

Group 3 Recall
Combination 4 and 11C1 responded to a second alarm fire at 23 Brown Street in Winchendon. Heavy fire on the second and third floors of a large multi-family house. Gardner Firefighters rescued one of several cats removed from the building. Crews returned to the City at 06:23 hours.
