As we wrap up Teen Driver Safety Week, here’s a reminder for all of us: THE TEXT CAN WAIT.

Put your phone away before you drive. New drivers are still building the skills and habits they need behind the wheel, and driving deserves their full attention. No message is worth taking their eyes off the road.

📱 Phone away. Eyes up. Drive safely.

🚗 Teen Driver Safety Week Continues!

Getting a Kansas driver’s license happens in stages, and each stage comes with different rules for when teens can drive and who can ride along. Our guide highlights the main steps, from an instruction permit to a nonrestricted license.

Kansas also has additional licensing options, including farm permits, with their own requirements and restrictions. Before your teen gets behind the wheel, review the rules for their specific permit or license: https://www.ksrevenue.gov/dovgdl.html

Talk with your teen driver about the rules, practice together, and make safe driving a habit from day one.

🚗 Teen Driver Safety Week 🚗

Learning to drive brings new freedom, but it also comes with serious responsibility. This week, we encourage parents and guardians to talk with their teen drivers about the choices that keep everyone safe:

✅ Buckle up on every trip
📵 Put the phone away
🚦 Follow the speed limit
👥 Limit distractions from passengers
🚫 Never drive impaired

Safe driving habits begin long before the keys are handed over. Set clear expectations, model responsible behavior, and keep the conversation going.

Buckle up. Phone down. Drive smart.

🧠 World Mental Health Day 🧠

Today is a reminder that understanding, patience, and compassion can make a meaningful difference.

The Gardner Police Department’s Blue Envelope Program and awareness stickers help alert first responders that someone may benefit from additional time, clearer communication, or a different approach during an interaction.

These tools are designed to reduce stress, improve communication, and help create safer interactions for individuals with autism or other communication needs, their families, and first responders.

To learn more or request a Blue Envelope or awareness sticker, contact the Gardner Police Department.
