The Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Complex (Lahontan NFHC) began operations at the Marble Bluff Fish Passage and Research Station (MBFF) on January 16th, 2026. We thank the Bureau of Reclamation for completing the necessary maintenance for this spawning season. Starting next week, we will share weekly updates every Monday on the number of fish we assist upstream during the previous week.

Over the last 2 weeks the Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Complex has stocked 15,069 catchable Pilot Peak strain Lahontan cutthroat trout into Lake Tahoe at Meeks Bay, Lake Forest Boat Ramp, and Sand Harbor State Park. Stocking and updates will continue bi weekly throughout the summer at various publicly accessible locations in both California and Nevada. Approximately 25% of the trout stocked will be tagged with a T-bar anchor tag that has a unique ID and phone number on it. Anglers are encouraged to report their catch and help our biologists evaluate the success of the stocking along with the growth, survival and distribution of the fish. Thank you to the Washoe Environmental Protection Dept., California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, U.S. Forest Service - Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, California State Parks, and Nevada State Parks for the ongoing collaboration in this effort.

Fun Facts:
-Lahontan cutthroat trout are the only trout native to Lake Tahoe.
-Lahontan cutthroat trout are the state fish of Nevada.
-Lahontan cutthroat trout are the largest inland cutthroat trout in the world.
