East Fork Fire Protection District is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and visionary fire service professional to join our leadership team as our next Deputy Fire Chief.

This is an opportunity to help lead a progressive organization dedicated to serving the residents and visitors of Douglas County while shaping the future of fire and emergency services in our community.

East Fork Firefighters recently joined Carson City Fire in instructing United States Forest Service firefighters from the Lake Tahoe Basin in structural firefighting and rescue techniques.

The training provided a valuable opportunity to sharpen hands-on skills, strengthen interagency coordination, and continue building strong partnerships throughout our region.

REMINDER: OPEN BURNING IS CLOSED FOR THE SEASON ⚠️

East Fork Fire Protection District responded this evening to an approximately 1-acre wildland fire in the area of Sunlit Court.

This marks the third fire in the past week within our district caused by illegal burning. Due to increasingly dry conditions across the region, backyard burn season has been suspended for the season.

Please help us prevent additional fires, no outdoor burning is currently allowed.

East Fork would like to remind Douglas County residents in the East Fork Fire District that burn season was ended early this year due to changing weather and fuel conditions.

This afternoon shortly after 2:00pm, units responded to a fire burning in pine needles and climbing up trees as a result of an unattended burn. The fire was smoldering when the afternoon winds picked up fanning the flames.

Burn season ended May 17 and will open again in fall when conditions improve.

As a reminder, permits will be available on Community Connect.

While Station 14 crews were out conducting wildland training off East Valley, they weren’t the only ones in the sky.

NDF Helicopter 400 was working in the area, and after making contact over the radio, crews took the opportunity to coordinate some impromptu bucket drop training together.

Training opportunities like these help strengthen interagency relationships, communication, and coordination ahead of the upcoming wildland fire season.

The crew from Engine 7 had the honor of attending the launch for the 2026 Hot Air for Hope event, and the skies over Gardnerville did not disappoint! Seeing these amazing balloons rise at sunrise alongside our community made for an unforgettable start to the day.

Earlier this afternoon, crews from East Fork Fire Protection District responded to a vehicle fire on southbound US-395 near the Simee Dimeh Summit area.

The fire was quickly contained to the vehicle, but with today’s hot, dry, and windy conditions, a full wildland response was dispatched to prevent any spread into the surrounding vegetation.

Thanks to the rapid response and coordinated efforts, crews were able to keep the incident contained and protect the surrounding area.

As temperatures rise across Northern Nevada, please use extra caution while traveling and spending time outdoors. Even a small spark can quickly turn into a wildfire.
