Here's this week's downtown construction update:
The Square
Fifth Street between State and Main Streets:
This section of Fifth Street is paved and continues to be closed for construction activity at the intersection of Main/Fifth. Re-opening is anticipated to occur in June 2022, pending delivery of critical materials in late May.
Main Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets:
Construction is progressing and concrete has been poured along Main Street for both the roadway and the on-street parking.
This section of Main Street continues to be closed for construction activity. Re-opening is anticipated to occur in conjunction with Fifth Street.
While the sidewalks are narrow, they are still open to access the businesses on the south side of Main Street.

Construction! It seems like construction is everywhere in Garland. And this is very EXCITING! Construction means progress and the modernization of this wonderful city. You may be feeling inconvenienced by a construction project in your neighborhood. But there is one thing we definitely know about construction; it doesn't last forever. So we can position ourselves in one of two ways: we can champion the efforts of the city to bring safe, smooth streets to our neighborhoods or we can complain about the terrible condition of the same streets. I'm so excited about the street revitalization efforts of this wonderful city. I hope you are too!
